Creatures Docking Station

Ok so I just got Creatures 3, and would like to download Docking Station. The problem is, I can't get it to work no matter where I download it from. It says something about not being able to read a file? Also I read that you need an account or something to use DS, and that the emailing system for it has been offline for a while now? :/

What's the exact error you receive, please? And have you tried downloading Docking Station from here yet:

I have before without any problems, so fingers crossed? Unfortunately, with the emailing system down, new accounts cannot be created at this time. However, when you do get DS working, you can download the DS Offline Option from the bottom of that page. Once installed it'll allow you to create offline worlds and play that way. :)

I downloaded it from there and this is the message I get:

"Installation stopped

Trouble bzip2 reading from
C: \Program Files (x86)\Docking Station\file_list_splash.txt.partial

You can resume the installation where it left off by running Docking Station from the Start menu.

Alternatively, you can uninstall it from Add/Remove programs in the Control Panel."

Ah, the installblast issue rears its ugly head again! I'd uninstall, then reinstall and when Docking Station asks you to update, just decline and click 'No' next time! The installation should then continue as normal. :) Grendel Man also gave this advice, in an earlier topic on the same problem, which helped:

Grendel Man wrote:
The best idea, I think, is simply ignore any messages about updates (there isn't any, obviously) and change your shortcuts so they bypass the update check.

To do this, right-click on your desktop shortcut/main menu link/whatever and select "properties." Underneath "target," you'll see a file path - it should read something along the lines of "XProgram Files\Docking Station\InstallBlast.exe." Change "InstallBlast.exe" to "engine.exe" (without quotations, of course).

I hate to say it, but I got a new error.

"The game cannot continue, please change your display settings to be 'High Color (16 bit)'"

Have you checked you're using 16 bit colours? Right-click on your Desktop, click Properties, then click on the last tab and check the colours are set to 16 bit and not 32 bit.

Then try and start up DS again. :)

I use a couple of batch files plus a third-party utility to automatically switch into and out of 16-bit mode when I run the game. I wrote up a post about it some time ago:

Auto color depth switch method
