All norns lost ability to breed

My norns appear to have lost the ability to breed successfully. A pair of self proclaimed "extremely friendly" and sexually mature norns attempted kisspopping repeatedly for a very long time with no results. I initially thought there was a fertility problem with the male I was using; the female norn had produced several successful offspring in other worlds, so I knew the issue had nothing to do with her, so I went through one of my norn family files and discovered a pattern of male infertility throughout this male individual's line. I assumed the female would mate with another male without any problems. Nope.

The same thing happened. Desire to mate was strong yet again, but the attempts were long-lasting and unsuccessful. I tried increasing adult fertility with the hoverdoc, implementing Ctrl-9 and a few other things.

I created a brand new world and experienced the same problem with several norn couples. Even those who had produced several offspring during their travels continued to kisspop in vain. I don't think they would have stopped if I hadn't intervened.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what might be going on here?

Maybe population control? You know, the thing that limits how much norns can breed.

That's the main thing I was thinking, Pirate-Rob. I can't think of anything else that would explain it... I've had this happen, and then I realized I had my population numbers set really low. If it's not that, I wonder if anyone else has ideas?

Heavy metals destroy fertility in both genders. I had an experiment where I used a heavy metal emitter and I could usually get a couple of offspring and then nothing, no matter how friendly they were, it was never enough.

Doesn't heavy metals also cause rising mutations or something like that?

If the creature's reproductive organs manage to survive the assault of heavy metals, yes, the offspring will have an increased mutation rate. Also, I think other toxins might affect the gonads and uterus. Possibly one or two of the antigens.

Yep, that's why I was using the emitter, but I never really saw and increase in mutation. Even after 5 generations.

The strange thing is that everything was working fine the day before. The X-ray agent has shown no sign of heavy metals and fully functioning gonad/uterus organs. I'm wondering if it could have anything to do with breeding scripts being removed or replaced somehow? I haven't set my population numbers any differently. I may just try to restore the game folder to a previous version and see if that fixes the issue, but for my own sanity I need to understand what the heck could have gone wrong. Thanks for all the input, I'm going to do some digging through my files and hopefully have an "ah-ha" moment.

My docking station bootstrap folder shows that I have 2 creatures breeding scripts.

DS creaturebreeding.cos and
creaturebreeding.cos

Is this right? Are there supposed to be 2?

Nope. creatureBreeding.cos is from C3, but it shouldn't be in the DS folder.

Didn't think so.

Ok, it has to be a population limit issue. I bred two norns using the inseminator . Shortly after the egg had been laid the following error message popped up:

Although I have Exodus, I have only been playing DS worlds, so I don't understand how everything got so screwed up.
