Hello everyone! I'm here posting on behalf of Rascii this fine evening. In the old days of Creatures Caves, there was a fifth user level: 'Staff Member'. Staff Members were members with the ability to find the latest news, links, adoptions and downloads, from in and around the community, and post them on the website. Essentially, their only special power was that their submissions automatically bypassed the approval system, since they were already deemed trustworthy. Recently we've been pondering the idea of bringing this feature back, to help us keep up with what's new in the Creatures Community. What we'd really like though, is to hear your thoughts on this potential new user level, and also see who'd want to take on such a responsibility, should it be introduced in the future (we would need to have enough people interested first). Would it be useful to have Staff Members around? Would this encourage more content being added to Creatures Caves? Do you think the role would suit you? Why and why not? And are there any other duties a Staff Member could undertake? Finally, please bear in mind that Staff Members are not Moderators or Managers. They are merely members who are expected to actively find new content for the website, and are trusted to post it without needing approval. Thank you for any input!  |

I think that this new user level would be rather handy. Considering CCaves is pretty much the hub of Creatures Community activity at the moment, having people frequently update news and whatnot would be pretty helpful. I think this is a pretty useful feature, and I'd love to help Creatures Caves expand! The only problem might be users suddenly leaving. |

As already mentioned, CCaves is the hub for the CC. With C4 coming up things could really start moving. Adding this feature before everything really gets going would allow the Staff Members (I keep thinking of them as news reporters for newspapers or blogs) to get used to their position. Users suddenly leaving? I can't really figure out why. C-Rex can you explain your thought process so that I can better understand your point of view and concern? I know that if I was a SM that I would have a hard time knowing what was actual news and what was simply interesting to me personally. Others would probably not have this difficulty though. I think that the person or persons incharge of the CCSF would be given this position. The community already trusts them to organize everything and it would speed news from there. Furthermore, by having more people regularly contributing to the news, we've got a broader spread of opinions on what is newsworthy, and on what the point of the news items should be. It is a position of some responsibility, in that you'll be trusted not to post up rants on the main page and that your posts should be intelligible, but common sense goes a long way in this regard. I'll be a latecomer to the conversation and just say that I'm in favor of this! It seems like we get a lot of news from a small group of people right now: That's not a bad thing, but I think it would be nice to get opinions from others on what's newsworthy. Sometimes others stumble across important news first, and having that responsibility might be a great push to get people interested! I'm sure I would volunteer, though I'm currently swamped in a bunch of stuff at the moment. I think that's why it's important to have a few people as Staff Members: Should one ever be unavailable for a short period of time, others can easily step in. |
