This might be a stupid question, but how does one differentiate between "door exit" and "door enter" and "need to exit " and "need to enter"?
For instance, if a creature has a "need to exit" the workshop and it pushed the door to the capillata hub, how are enter and exit chemicals affected? Or is it that a creature would have a "need to enter" when going through a door, because they would be entering a new area? Once entering the meso, which drives would be satisfied--enter or exit?
Further, how do these chemicals correspond to these instincts and drives if a creature travels between rooms using an agent such as the Torii? How would it determine whether it needs to exit or needs to enter?

From my understanding, "need to exit" is what drives creatures to leave one metaroom and enter another (like from the norn terrarium to the bridge, or the Meso to the Hub).
"Need to enter," on the other hand, is what makes creatures use doors within the same metaroom (as in, the door separating the learning room entrance from the rest of the norn terrarium).
I can't say I remember ever seeing a creature with a "need to enter," however - I think that "need to enter" might actually be unused and "need to exit" handles any and all door use; however, I'm not too sure.

Ahh, I see. This definitely clarifies a lot of my confusion. Thanks Grendel Man!
Edit: One more thing, where does patience and the 'wait' chemical fit in?

Wait is pretty much exactly what it says on the tin - it tells the creature to sit there and wait until the door, elevator, etc. has moved it to its destination. Without this chemical, creatures will push a door, then push it again once they're on the other side, winding up back where they started, and wind up getting stuck in that loop for ages. Creatures using wait-less elevators will often miss their stop if the elevator in question stops at more than two floors.
The wait chemical has the side effect of "lowering" all other drives when it's present, meaning it's also the reason why non-CFE norns often wind up at the tops of elevator shafts, staring at the elevator.
