Creatures 1 Female Grendel Head

As I get ready to finally complete the updated Creatures 1 Grendel, I came across an interesting issue. I always believed that the C1 female Grendel head had been created by someone in the community, though I never was sure who. My best guess was Don, based on the Grendel family, but I've never been entirely sure.

Grendel Man recently posted that he's pretty sure that the C1 female Grendel head was actually included with Creatures 1. Since the original Grendels were always male, it was a long time before these sprites were actually used and seen in the game.

Does anyone have information about this? Did the C1 female Grendel head actually come with Creatures 1? Or was someone responsible for creating it? This is more for curiosity than anything else, though as I get ready to work on the female Grendel, I want to be sure that I'm not editing a community member's work without their permission. At the very least, I'd like to give credit where it's due, even if I end up polishing these images.

Thanks!

The female head sprites do come with the GOG version of The Albian Years, so I'm sure they were also included with the original game. :)

As far as I can recall, the adult female sprites were included with C1, they were just an easter egg in that grendels were always male. The Truth About Grendels (a site which spans 1997-1999, so 'the good old days') says that "There are only sprites (graphics) for adult grendels in Creatures, so they just look like adults after they're born." - this to me implies that adult sprites for both genders was included on the CD. It provides links to the baby grendel sprites and the pensioner sprites, no links to any 'female' sprites - which it would have done, if they had been a player-created thing. It displays an adult female grendel on its front page.

C12DS, which was permitted to include all aspects of C1 that was on the Freeloader website, includes female grendels.

I wish I still had my CD - that'd fix this definitively. :P

Thank you for the quick replies, Ghosthande and Malkin! I still have my original CD and might be able to verify this, though I'm more concerned with messing with my current installation. It sounds like I've been wrong all along, which is actually a good thing! That makes it easier for me to fix them up. Good news! I'll be a tad bit busy this week, but getting the C1 Grendel completed is at the top of my list.

Now I'm excited! I was worried I would need to get permission from someone who may or may not be in the community. Hurray! This makes me positive that this project can finally be completed.

Expect a full release this week or, at the very worst, the following week! I would appreciate some extra testing before I move onto converting the fixes for C2 and C3/DS. Much easier to fix a minor sprite/body data issue in C1 than have to worry about it down the line. Thanks again for the information, and to those who have downloaded the fixed male Grendels! I'm thrilled to see the breed finally being able to have a decent appearance and walk around correctly!
