I am sorry to say I still have been unable to get C3 to work on a usb, it works fine if installed to a hard drive and launched from the usb, but if you make changes to run off the usb, you get a black or white screen with no sound and no game. I will release what I have done so far, and hopefully someone can get it to work and help me finish. In this release, you have DS, C2, and C1 plus downloaded intro videos for all games as well as the C1 Tutorial video from the C1 disc when it was released by itself. There are other little tweaks and stuff, and the games work fine if you follow the PDF instructions included. Let me know if you find any bugs, or need any help. The games are not included, Let me know if your release doesn't work. This has been built and tested with GOG games. Link in next post.

If someone wishes to re-post this, I would welcome it. This doesn't contain any of the games, and is created with open source software. Do remember not to update to suite at all or add any other games or you may have to re-download.

thanks K@nilb. I am gonna upload to mediafire. The instructions are complicated. If anyone wishes to redistribute, (yes you too K@nilb) go ahead and do so. If anyone chooses to work with me on C3, I would like to get that done. I have changed the size of the zip by changing the video files included. It has the creatures videos from youtube, and the C1 Tutorial was the biggie. Sorry Laura for the repost btw. Now the entire thing is 101 MB, instead of 250. Make sure you have GOG.com versions, you may need VLC media. I could only get the re sized videos to work on my PC with that. Link in about 10 to 15 mins.

Go ahead on put it on your pages. Just credit me. You can combine C3 with DS. Thanks Rascii for edit. Someone asked what the project was about. Put simply, it allows you to backup your existing world or move it it onto a usb for use on any computer. Take your Creatures with you. save your states, and reload etc. Sorry it took like 2 years to get this out. It has been put off, ignored, etc. @ K@nilb. Do whatever you want. I just changed the size of the upload. NOTE: I am pretty sure you need a fresh gog.com install, then it is just drag and drop. No Creatures games are included.

After heavy testing I have found that creatures 1 and 2 will not work without registry files. Those files are on your local computer. My advice is to install creatures to your USB via the GoG.com installer (Note this will enable creatures 3 from your USB. Finally figured it out.) if you want to run the worlds from there and keep them separate from your computer. Those registry files dictate where the world is on your computer. So if you have it on your hard drive, your going to get the world from your hard drive. Because of the registry files you cannot install creatures on a computer that never had creatures on it. My next release is for the CCSF and will have .reg files so you can get all the games to run even on a computer without creatures installed.

Creatures Community Spirit Festival release has been posted in downloads and submitted today. Hope it make it as it is almost 10 seconds from not making it. lol This new release has a new freeware visualization software integration, which allow the user to launch the Document associated with the game beside the actual game. Registry files which should (feature untested) allow you to use the usb on any computer you own, even if creatures hasn't been put on it.

It also now allows Creatures 3 to run in it's full glory! The answer to othe problem was so simple it was staring me in the face, lol I hope you enjoy the new release, and that it makes the cut since here it is about less then four hours away from the 28th. :D The old version is still available as well. Keep sending bug reports, feedback etc. NOTE: New version is about 900MB. P.S. I hope it is ok for me to bump this since it is my topic.

Some users were complaining about lack of loading cobs. Looking into it. I may have to scrap the virtual program. From what I understand is it loads a fresh world every time. From what I found just look in the C1 folder for the cobs, make sure if u just put it on a new PC that never had creatures, to load the included registry files BEFORE loading the game.

This release is highly experimental. Still looking into it, but pls report bugs! I was in a rush for the latest release. In all honesty I may have overlooked a few things. Pls again report bugs.

After lots of testing, I have made another release. Below are the patch notes. The patch file is less then 18 MB. The zip contains updated registry files, a fix for the error with C1, and a remade help file. I think unless I find a fix for my C1 problem, this is the final release. I do plan on remaking the release a little less complicated in this order by: some tweaking first, install Creatures USB Second, with GoG.com installs after, and perhaps more tweaks at the end.

USB Version 1.3 patch notes:

1. Changes to the help file

2. Creatures 1 USB Update.exe changes the Creatures 1 launcher file Errors pop up, but game runs fine. Adds Creatures 1 Manual as an option at launch, and removes the error “Cannot find title.bmp” which prevents launch of the game. Creatures 1 Health kit does not run unless ran in admin mode. Currently Creatures 1 is not portable, however the PC you installed it on does run it off the USB. You can use it for backup as well. I suggest install Creatures 1 on every PC in that you wish to run it on. I do not know a way fix this currently. Due to C1 to DS and C2 to DS, you may just want to stick with C3 or DS. I still include a C1 registry file in case you wish to enable the skirty cheat.
Creatures 2 likes to crash with the launcher, so running as admin will fix it if you run into it. To run admin mode, just right click and run as administrator instead of just clicking Creatures game once.
Please note: After extensive testing, C3 and DS do run without registry files. They are both totally portable, However your worlds, creatures, and others will not be put in my documents folder. C3 and DS look for worlds, and exported creatures for import there. Agents stay on the USB. You will have to start over with a fresh new world. My advice is run the registry files, run the program, then copy the data from USB to my documents. Option 2 below offers an way to perform manual backup and restore when moving from computer to computer. There are freeware files out there that will snyc any folder automatically.

3. Thanks to BaffleBlend for bringing to my attention about the agents, causing me to be less lazy and make these changes.

4: Also huge thanks K@nilb for hosting my files on another site.

5. Just a reminder that you can repost this on your Creatures webpage, Just give credit to me.

At this point if anyone needs any help with a bug, let me know. As of right now I would say this beta has been a huge success. Hopefully your dreams of taking creatures on a USB have come true. I am going to start moving from experimental beta to an official release in late march. It gives me a month and a half to deal with bugs. Should none come up, then I won't have to do a thing except take the beta and repackage it into a less complicated format.

Thanks guys! It's been really fun working on this, and I hope very valuable to you. It has certainly been a gem for me. Not only to contribute to one of my favorite games as a kid, but also make something really essential for the veterans and new people alike.

I haven't gotten any notices on any bugs. I now have a release date for the non beta release. I will have it uploaded by March 26th. The program file will contain a less complicated release. Basically modify your USB to F drive, install the software, install the creatures games. Those who are up to date on everything won't have to do a thing. It is designed to cut down on the number of steps. A few other changes as well. Make sure to check out the other folders. Some additions, and a surprise inside one of them. Enjoy!

Final version is released. Included is some videos from Discover Albia that I found helpful. Also a program of my own. I hope you enjoy it. It is a pretty big download. About 1.07 GB I have no plans at this time to release another version. Enjoy!

Also please note that an upgrade from 1.3 to 1.4 is possible. Just point it at ur USB and install. It should replace everything, leaving your creatures files in tact.

I am going to repost this on the download page as well.

After additional testing, ( Ugh. My testing never stops. Too proud of this to not be able to answer questions shot my way. ) Please note that if you do follow the instructions included, C3 and DS will run after just a double click of the registry files on any computer that never had creatures on it.

On the other hand, C1 and C2 have been buggy. Changing the name of the directory that contains your creatures files, and starting over from scratch as indicated in the instructions will minimize errors. Just delete the new install, and change the name of your folder back. Activate those registry files too.

C1 and C2 will shoot off errors. Every test I have done has run into it. Just wade through the error boxes, and keep at it. They will run. As far as I know, C1 and C2 are available for C3 and DS. Probably everyone runs them on that. I just did stuff for C1 and C2 because I grew up on C1. C3 was released, and so was creatures village, I still had C1. I still play on the original engine as well every once and awhile. I mostly play on DS probably like everyone else.

Also some new info after testing, if you run DS or C3, and you do not do a fresh install to USB, ( or just stick your USB in to another computer that never had it on it. ) you will see a folder created in my documents. Also there will be a hidden folder created in the USB folder for docking station and C3.

I apoligize that this way is so complicated to new users, you almost need extensive knowledge of windows. Fortunately, I am here for you. I am Microsoft Certified. Or Certifiabily certifiable. I don't think it matters.

My advice is if you just keep everything in the creatures exodus folder, you can re copy to the hidden one. When running docking station or c3 the hidden folder is made, and it is in the docking station or c3 folder. Not exodus.

People where asking where their world is stored. It is stored there. Hidden. When you redo all the steps from sqare one, it does it right. It keeps everything in my documents or the exodus folders.

If you want to reload your world on a fresh computer
1. just run DS or c3
2. hatch a creature
3. export it
4. Exit. You should see the folders in my documents.
5. Copy everything backed up in exodus to the my documents folder.
6. Goto C3 or DS folder on the USB. ( looks like L:/PortableApps/Creatures Docking Station/Creatures DS.data/VOS/Creatures Exodus/Personal/Creatures/Docking Station )
If you can't see the folder personal, you should follow step 7.
7. Go to start, control panel, change view by category to large icons, click folder options, click the view tab, under category hidden floes and folders, click to show hidden files and folders. ( windows default is this option is off. )
8. You now can copy all you stuff again. Enjoy playing C3 or DS with your old world.

Thanks to grendal_man for some help in fixing a problem with agents that create files when loaded. If your old agents don't work as they used to, copy the body data, images, whatever it need from the hidden folder to your USB.

A new help file will come out soon. I don't want to make everyone re download the whole 1 gb zip file so just the help file. I also plan to have a work around for non windows users sometime. ( I don't have anything but windows. I need a someone to try it. ) It won't have everything, you won't need to download anything, but if running the creatures off your USB is what you want without everything else, it should be almost the same as this setup.

Backup your USB
Reinstall creatures pointed to your USB
Run the base program.

Can anyone confirm these steps on a non windows PC?

Well it is official, I have a new release. It has a huge reduction in size! Now under 120mb due to cutting of programs, cutting videos, and learning more about the program I was using. I added an option to add Creatures Village as well.

The new Creatures Pocket Edition 1.5 marks the first non alpha or beta release. From Alpha, Beta, till now this has been a passion of mine.

I hope you enjoy it. :D I also hope someone puts it on the news for the forum.

Thank you all for your suggestions, and help. It has been a long journey. I plan to update after testing the New DS add on by ham5ter. I have no idea if I will include it. I shall talk to him about it.
