Even though these forums are Creatures-related overall, Strangeo is an off-topic forum so it's absolutely fine by us for you to post your Minecraft topic in there. I don't see why it wouldn't be allowed!

If you're unsure about anything regarding the forum rules in the future, it might be best to private message me or another staff member with your question. We'll be more sure to see it that way and will be able to get right back to you with the answer. [nsmile]

How do people play on Minecraft? I mean, is it very easy to trace someone on a Minecraft server back to "Jane Jones, 17 Cherry Tree Lane, Woop-Woop, Australia"? Just thinking about this from the ever-popular 'online safety' point of view. [ntongue]

If you're running a server and want people to connect to it, you give out your IP address. That's the only information that is shared, and if you can manage to accurately hunt someone down with just that I will be pretty impressed. >.>

Thanks generalflame! [ngrin] So just by connecting to a server, you don't have to give out any personal information?

I think you can not see the profiles of other players.

But even if, the official profile on Minecraft.net only contains nickname, your custom player skin with which you show up ingame and your email address.
And the email address is even obfuscated when you are logged in and look at your OWN profile. For Minecraft I use the same address as here on CCaves. It only shows up as g***********@y****.de.

So really, IPs are the only thing which are exchanged. You have the server IP and the server maintainer has your IP. That's it.
