| C2toC3 CFE Norns are in the Ettin Slot? | |

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to use the CFE-genome versions of the C2 Desert, Pixie, and Emerald norns (my favorite three breeds across all of the games), but apparently the Emerald and Desert converted norns use Ettin slots. Now, my C3 world's Ettin generator is spitting out norn eggs. I tried to track down as many details as I could, and have this much information (in German, apparently):
http://www.creatures.de/c3breeds9.htm
http://www.creatures.de/c3breeds10.htm
http://www.creatures.de/c3breeds11.htm
http://seeyou7.net/creatures/creatures3/breedlist/norn/pixie.html
http://seeyou7.net/creatures/creatures3/breedlist/ettin/desert.html
http://seeyou7.net/creatures/creatures3/breedlist/ettin/emerald.html
I don't care as much about Treehugger or Zebra norns, which apparently these originally conflicted with, so I could live without them. (I can't even get the Treehugger norns, apparently.) Is there any way I can learn how to convert them back to the original Norn slots they used? I'd probably have to manually remove the Zebra norns as well to give these priority. I'd much rather have all of my Ettins back and working normally. I'm a programmer, so nasty encoded files or scripts don't scare me, but I've never done any scripting for Creatures before.
Thanks! |

The reason for this is that the ettin mother looks for any genome beginning with E to hatch an ettin from, and the grendel mother, likewise, looks for any genome beginning with G.
Don made some packs for various other E and G norn breeds that fixed the problem for those - perhaps they could be reverse-engineered to fix the Emerald Norns hatching from the Ettin Mother.

Or you download/create a fix for the machines self.
Pretty easy to make. Go to the Creatures 3 files. Enter Bootstrap and then 001 World. Open the file "grendel and ettin egg maker.cos". For this you can use an ordinary text editor like notepad. Use the replace function as followed:
1. Replace "e*" with "ettn*" (yes, ettn, not ettin)
2. Replace "g*" with "gren*"
Save and close. Afterwards will every new world really only hatch ettin and grendel eggs.
To install it in existing worlds, press Ctrl Shift C, type
ject "grendel and ettin egg maker.cos" 7
Hit enter and close the console again.
btw: when you don't dare to edit the cosfile on your own, have a look at the Grendel & Ettin Maker Update which is available here. The installation is the same as with the homebrew file.

While we're at it how would one fix the bug where it appears in front of the Ettin Yule Tree?

That's... really not related to Apropos's issue, Wiimeiser - how about making a new thread?
