OK, two Norns of mine died today. I tried using the hoverdock to see why that happened, but when I checked the bodies, all of their drives were low, and they had no bacteria or toxins. In case the breeds they are had something to do with this, the Norns that died were a Siamese/Civet mix and a Dream/Gargoyle mix. Both were female. The third party things I am using in this world include C12DS with the badplants removed, a few dummy portals, a Shee Plushie, a vocabulizer, a Stop Slapping Creatures, and an egg finder advanced. I sort of think the Stop Slapping Creatures agent has something to do with the sudden deaths, but I'm not sure.

I like using Medical Monitor, it updates every halfminute or so with toxins and bacteria and pain - which can be symptomatic of two norns slapping each other about, or of a norn falling from a very high height. Each of these produces Wounded, which can kill norns if it gets too high.
The Stop Slapping Creatures agent automatically punishes the hitting norn and throws the norn that was hit away from its attacker... so it may be a factor in your norns' deaths.
Adding in a few more toys to the world might also help prevent your norns from discovering that hitting others is a great way of reducing boredom.

If it was hitting each other or other wounding, they should have had high fear, anger and pain. (Especially pain.)
Are the two norns related? If so, it could be a genetic defect -something that makes some normally-harmless event fatal. This is especially likely if they were newly hatched - I had a few norns die around 2-6 mins due to a genetic defect that made them less efficient at producing ATP. (ATP is essential for life, and normally jumps up and down in a norn, in these guys when it went down a bit more than usual it would dip low enough to kill them.)
Do you still have the bodies? If so, check their monikers (big long string starting with three numbers and a word, eg '003-tree', which can be found on the last page of the Creature data. Press F1, then click on the corpse to get Creature data. Also, if you're in a C3 docked world, the graveyard can give you access to the Creature data even if the body is gone.) Once you get the moniker, look in the Docking Station folder and find My World/[worldname]/Genetics, get their genetics find, and use gene compare or some similar program to compare it to a default genome or to one of their parents. This will tell you what mutations they have.
By the way, I don't care if anyone steals my ideas for their own work, as long as you don't try to stop me from making my own stuff. Many ideas I mention are things I don't have the time or skill to actually do. |
