I can't connect to ANY server whatsoever. In fact, I don't even have a server.cfg file at all. I have a user.cfg file instead. Should I just re-install the damn thing and then track down each and every agent and breed that I downloaded? So frustrating! Also, the free breeds(magma and the others) aren't showing up either. Grrrr! |

The server is struggling since quite a while. It's only online every now and then.

When you say the free breeds aren't showing up, have you already downloaded them, or are you saying you can't? |

I went to the gameware site(i think?) and did the whole install thing for the magma, fallow and siamese norns. It says they were successfully installed, but they hatched as chichis.....any idea why? Or do I need to get the sprites and images separately? |

My onlinr is working good today, plus watching some norns sent out by various people When I installed the add on breeds I or the agent installed their sprites. For more practice theres a lot of breeds listed here http://www.seeyou7.net/creatures/creatures2/breedlist/a-allbreeds.html thats where I found a lot of mine.

What game are you playing, LadyMisery?
Just a wild guess, but if you're playing Exodus, it may be installing the sprites in the wrong directory. If that's the case, check the directories under both My Documents and Program Files. I'm not sure I've heard of breed sprites installing in the wrong places before, but I've heard of similar problems with various other files.
Alternately, if you're running a version of Windows such as Windows Vista, make sure User Account Control isn't screwing things up. Sometimes it shoves files in the VirtualStore directory because it doesn't like putting them in Program Files, which can cause it to "overlook" those files later--say if you run the game in admin mode. I had lots of headaches when I first started playing Creatures, because it kept doing that to me.

Where did you get your copy of DS from? DS was rebundled as "Creatures Exodus" a few years ago, which works with more modern computers than the original but is slightly trickier to install stuff on.
I'd recommend getting the "Linux" edition of the breeds - they're easier in some ways to install - pop them in your "My Agents" folder and hatch a few babies.

I downloaded it from another website, I think it was treesprite? I have the "server.cfg" and I changed it to "server.cfg2" but with no success. I actually remembered my old username and password, but still to no avail. If I had 6 bucks to spare, I would get Exodus from GOG.com.
I have Windows 7, if that helps any. |

You might like to try updating the contents of server.cfg.

I gave up and made an offline game. The good news is that I have all the mall breeds and they show up properly due to your advice to get the linux versions. Yaye for that! The one thing I wish someone made was a cemetery like the one in creatures 1. The tombstone creator is okay, but I miss the graveyard element I guess. |

If you download http://www.winterblades.org/server.cfg and put it directly into your DS folder, it should let you online. It's the version Don provided, just uploaded so that people can download it directly, if they find it hard to create or edit .cfg files. |
