212 Pre - REM: Controls dreaming. Your creature learns its instinctual behaviors while it dreams.
213 REM: Controls dreaming.

I cannot find any further information about these chemicals, but considering the apparent function of pre-REM, it seems like it would be important.

Does anyone know anything else about how these work?

Looking at the full civet genome doesn't provide any answers, just their half-lives - 255 each.

The caos help document provides the two commands ASLP and DREA:

ASLP makes the creature asleep or awake (0 for awake, 1 for asleep) and it can also be used as an integer to find out if a creature is awake or asleep.

DREA is said to work much the same way, but controls dreaming within the ASLP state.

Now this is where it gets confusing:

Embri at Ctopia wrote:
While trying to modify the Flarises sleep cycle (Vampess) found yet another flaw in the GW genome which causes creatures to be unable to dream and sleep at the same time.

I know this raises more questions than answers, but hopefully it's a start.

Indeed, it is a start. Thanks Malkin!
