Okay, with the help of the many patient people here who are so nice about answering my constant stream of newby questions, my first two attempts at population control (guess you can tell what my biggest problem in Creatures tends to be!) are ready for others to try out and let me know if anything isn't working as advertised.
Magic Words Kill Half is an agent that makes use of the Magic Words Core by Amaikokonut to allow you to use a speech bubble command to reduce any agent with a classifier beginning with 2 (critters, bugs, etc.) by 50%. If the butterflies have taken over, for example, you'd just type "kill half 2 13 1" and instantly half the world's population of butterflies would vanish. (Fortunately, these aren't Chinese butterflies, so you don't have to worry about the old adage. I hope.)
The second one is an update to the trapper.cos file to make the trappers more useful for population control. These new trappers are movable and will grow wherever you need them, including on walkways, in corridors, and even underwater. They eat critters and bugs, of both the good AND bad varieties, because even good bugs are bad when they start taking over your world. I like to use one in the norn terrarium corridor to clean up the stray bugs and birds that are forever getting trapped in there, as well as in the desert terrarium basement. Initially injects 6 plants; 2 each in the norn terrarium, the jungle, and the desert, but you can move them (and their offspring) wherever you need them most. (Don't overdo it -- they are amazingly effective, and can deplete your population before you know it!)
Let me know what you think, and definitely let me know if you find any problems!
