I'm starting to get into sprite editing to fix a couple of issues in C1. I used to use BoBCOB's SpriteEditor, but no matter what I try, I get the following error every time I try to load it:
Run-time error '13':
Type mismatch
I switched over to the Creatures 2 Sprite Workshop, which is designed for C2, but works with C1.
My biggest problem is that after I edit a sprite file, the in-game sprites become problematic. Even if the only thing I do is to rearrange the order of the sprites, suddenly anything that was previously a very white color turns to black. So I end up with creatures who have black pixels in random spots. It's usually only confined to one or two places per individual image in a sprite file, but it can be pretty awful in older white haired Norns... I ended up with terrible streaks at one point!
Does anyone have any advice? I would love to get BobCOB's SpriteEditor working again... All of the other programs work. I'll continue trying some things out, but maybe others have experienced this and know a solutions. Thanks!

Which operating system are you using? I get the same error with Sprite Editor (and Bobcob) when using my Windows 7 laptop. Unfortunately, though I have tried for a very long time, I could find no solution to the problem. I think the program may just be incompatible on some of the newer systems.
However, that error does occasionally occur due to registry problems, so running a registry cleaner might help. This did not help me, though.
As for Sprite Workshop, I have the same problem with the white pixels. Unfortunately, I do not know of any way to avoid this. The only solution I know is to open up the sprites and edit out every pixel that is completely white, changing them to a slightly different color.
Sorry I couldn't be more help Hopefully someone with more experience knows of a work-around.

I'm using Windows 7 in Parallels. Every other BoBCOB program works... Except the one I really need! Such is life, though, right? Ha!
I've somewhat become used to having fix the white pixels, although I've noticed that they're not always stark white (#FFFFFF). Some pixels that are a shade or two darker can be affected. I might just need to work with that... Or turn all the sprites into really dark colors!
I think it's a compatibility issue, like you said. I've tried many tricks in the book, like running in all different modes and as an admin, to no avail. I hate that it worked before, because I remember how well it did work! At least there is a somewhat comparable program, though.
