Stoneskin the Norn

This is just something I thought up today. Sorry for grammar/spelling errors, I typed this up really quick in wordpad.

Stoneskin the Norn

Stoneskin the Norn was born with an abnormality, basically stone skin, which disabled movement, and made life difficult on him.
It started on a warm evening in the Capillata, a generation 100 Chichi had laid an egg on the heatpan, it was slower than normal to hatch, and eventually the Chichi got bored and left to play on the learning machine, which is an addiction to all Norns. Days and days passed and still the egg did not hatch. The Hand grew worried, it had learned about unhatchable eggs, it didn't happen often, but on rare occasions it had, and no one really knew what caused it. The Hand checked the Norn population and breed limits in the ship's controls but they were set infinitely high.
While tending to the other Norns one day, the Hand was hit with a notification, a Norn egg had hatched, and since he hadn't had any eggs in the world recently, it left only one possible explanation, the unhatchable egg had hatched.
The Hand rushed back to the heatpan, and found a very oddly colored Chichi norn, a very neon grey with piercing yellow eyes, it looked at the Hand and said nothing, it never moved, sat or crawled, it just stood there looking blankly at the Hand. The Hand tried leading it somewhere else, but, even though it could grab the Norn's hand, found the creature impossible to move. The Hand could pick it up, but it was very difficult. The Norn's fur was unusally rough and crunchy when the Hand had grabbed it, he moved some fur away and revealed the Norn's cold, hard skin. It was stupefying, how could a Norn be born with such fur and skin, and why did it not move? The Hand couldn't find any possible solution, and decided to name the poor Norn "Stoneskin."
A day passed by and the Hand was very much worried about the Norn, it had to eat, and all it ever said so far was "eem flub" It could move its face, and make expressions, and apparently speak, but it couldn't eat, move, or even press the button on the learning machine to be able to speak its mind. The Hand pulled out a syringe and injected it with liquid food, it wasn't the best way, but it would keep Stoneskin alive until the Hand could decide what to do with him. The Hand figured the humane but horribly sad way to end its suffering would be to "put it to sleep" with ATP decoupler, which would be a very fast death. The Hand took the Norn away to a private area, so the other Norns would not see it suffer. The Hand injected the smallest amount of ATP decoupler and waited. One minute, two, five, ten. Nothing happened. The Hand tried it again at a larger dose, nothing. Finally, after a few heart-wrenching sobs from the Norn, the Hand stopped, and instead took some DNA and analyzed it. There was a gene there that had made the Norn immune to ATP decoupler, Heavy metals, and other bad chemicals. This was an amazing discovery, and the Hand immediately took more samples and put them in a cryogenic freezer so he could later try to pull that gene and possibly make a breed of very hardy Chichi Norns.
Looking back at the sad face of poor Stoneskin, the Hand then realized that he wouldn't be able to end the Norn's suffering, that Stoneskin would have to life out his life in misery.
A few more days had passed by, and a Grendel outbreak had occurred, the Norns had used Stoneskin as a defense, as he couldn't be harmed by the Grendels cruel and unyielding slapping attacks, until the Hand could move the Grendels back to their own home. Some of the other Norns had used him as a toy, pushing him and knocking him over, even after several reproaches from the Hand, Stoneskin would often be pushed down the floors of the Capillata and other places, and on one occasion, a Grendel had even kidnapped him to use as target practise.
A while now had passed, and Stoneskin was finally getting old, he had a much longer life than most Norns, being "stone-like" he grew very slowly, and aged the same way. The Hand had since moved him to a private area with a few of the kinder Norns so he wouldn't get lonely. The Hand had, approximately three times a day, injected him with liquid food, and attended to Stoneskin much closer than the other Norns. The Hand had put on "shows" for him so he wouldn't get bored, pet him very often, and hoped that he wasn't suffering so much.
One day the Hand was making his usual rounds to Stoneskin, when he noticed his eyes were closed, which was normal, as he could move his face, and his eyes closed when he was sleeping. After a while, though, he did not wake, the Hand was filled with anxiety, he had not recieved a death notice, and he checked ten times over to make sure that there wasn't one. Was poor old Stoneskin really gone?
The Hand rushed to get a Hoverdoc, which pronounced him dead, but this wasn't enough, and the Hand did a quick analysis on Stoneskin, and found that he had no life signs, excepting for a few brainwaves. The Hand tried everything, but the Norn did not wake or poof away, and stayed in the analysis chamber for days.
His brainwaves did not speed up, slow down, or stop, the Hand felt terrible, after all of the suffering that Stoneskin had gone through, he was suspended in a state that he was dead, but still alive by a thread.
One day the Hand, passing the analysis chamber, noticed it was empty, and small sparkles were all that were left, as if a Norn had died there and disappeared in the familiar cloud of grey and white cloud-like "smoke" and sparkles, and the sparkles had dropped to the ground. The Hand hoped, and was almost sure, that old Stoneskin was finally at peace.
After Stoneskin had disappeared, the Hand had tried to pull the immunities from his DNA and leave out the stone skinned part, to perhaps, one day, create a breed of very resistant Chichis, and maybe even honor Stoneskin, and name one of the new race after him.
The End.

Very sweet story Yamishi,truly
sad too :(

I think it is a well worth read - I feel it's quite deep ;_;

Very well done!
Edit: Also forgot to say another thing I adored in this story is that the hand also sound very loving and caring - even for the grendels (wich is good - quite tired of the stories with hands without symphati for any living being T_T' )

Excellent story, Yamishi! I really enjoyed it, and agree with Norngirl about how nice it is to hear about a hand portrayed as kind and caring. It's a nice mix of hopefulness and sadness... Some of the best elements in a story. Thanks for sharing this!

Thank you guys, it's always nice to get feedback! :D
And no, I don't remember this ever happening to me, but I've been playing Creatures for so long that it may have a long time ago, and I've since forgotten, and it came out in story form.
