I know that its hard to believe, but I managed to enable music in Creatures Village in Windows 7. Unfortunately, it also comes with a problem. Here's how to do it:
1. Create a shortcut to Creatures Village (or the Creatures Village engine.exe) and click 'Compatibility'.
2. Select 'Windows 98' and click 'Apply'.
3. Start the game up. If you're lucky, the game should run, music and all. If not, you will be greeted by a message stating 'Failed to create server thread".
Does anyone know how to fix the 'server thread' problem?
P.S I also got this reply when I asked a person who claimed to get the music working how he/she did it:
" To get background music to play in Win XP: Set Audio to ?Modem #0 Line Playback? under Sound Playback in the Audio Manager/Multimedia and uncheck the box labeled ?use only default devices?.
In Windows Compatibility Mode, set to Win 98
Not sure if it matters but you can also get it to play in full screen rather than windowed in Properties/Shortcut/Run.
Sorry, I don't know how to get it to work in Win 7." |

Well that's frustrating.
It seems that the problem lies in changing the compatibility settings entirely. If you don't do that, you can at least get the game RUNNING... |
