Hi there everyone! I really want to create a norn breed. I know exactly what I want them to look like and I can do the colouring/sprite editing sort of. What I can't do is get the sprites from being artwork to working as a breed if you get what I mean. I really want to have something ready for the CCSF. I also have a fairly good idea about the genome too. So if anyone out there can help me or teach me how to do what I need to do I will be most grateful.

Hi fallowbelinda,
If you haven't already, check some of the sprite files for the official breeds to see how the image frames are laid out.
You'll need to decide on a breed slot if you haven't already. You can use any breed slot you like, although it's advisable to check a directory like this one:
http://www.creatures.de/c3breedlist1.htm
That way you can see what is already using that slot and make sure your breed won't clash with something you like.
Sprite files for Creatures have specific names with a unique naming convention, so you'll need to make sure your breed's sprites have the right names. There's a page at this address that explains what the names mean:
http://www.gamewaredevelopment.com/cdn/CDN_more.php?CDN_article_id=31
Your breed will need ATT files, too. Most of the time it isn't necessary to write them yourself. If your breed's sprites are the same size and shape as an official breed, you can just copy that breed's ATTs and rename them for your own breed.
If your breed is different enough that you can't copy all of another breed's ATTs, I've written a tutorial on how to write your own here:
http://www.family-gathering.org/bbw/atttut.html
Once you have sprites and ATTs saved with the right names, the only thing left is to tell the genome which sprites to use. That's the easiest part, you just edit the Creature Appearance genes to point to the species and letter of the slot your breed uses.

I thought about making my breed with sprites some time.... I am glad you replied Ghostie sprite coloring is really time consuming as I figured out myself if you want something more for your breed other than plain different color
I'm a hardcore christian first, and a creature breeder second.
