The title says it all really. I rather like the Norn design as well. Looks better than C3/DS norns IMO. Anyone else have opinions on the norn design? Or hoping that the Grendels are just as cute? :D

OH MY!!!! It's a 3D sidescroller, by the looks of it! And look at that Norn! A definate step back towards C2 but still advancing beyond C3.

It is a feline! ;)

What does everyone think of the screenshots? :)

I think it looks a bit like a monkey, a very cheeky monkey. I like it!

The rope ladders in the screenshot tell me the new norns will be able to climb up and down and generally get around much easier. Much better than those lazy elevator norns. ;)

Lots of info in just this one screenie, too. They're apparently going for a metaroom-style world, with several areas connected by some sort of transport making the world feel big and open. (See the basket on the rope?)

The grass growing in the hammock-like part of the tree house makes me hopeful for being able to grow plants and flowers.

I like the art style and the 3D-sidescrolling, it'll put the game right up there with other pretty games that will catch people's eyes. :)

Norn looks awesome, though I would want to see what it looks like in game...that looks like a render from Maya or Max with a fur attribute on. I just wonder how it will appear in game.

Environment look cool. 3D side scroller keeps the spirit while updating the tech. The enviroment has a nice simple look, which shouldn't be too hard to replicate for 3rd party development.

It looks like they have a sort of open metaroom style thing going on, which again is good for 3rd party. The room looks a bit empty at the moment...needs some gadgets to fill it up!

I wonder if they will continue the story...is this the more spherical world the shee were after?

Wow, this looks pretty good! If it's a sidescroller, then it will be keeping the style of the previous games. :D I'm glad they're listening to suggestions and everything from the CC!

That norn is so cute, too!

I like it. The norn's head is a bit wide but I can get used to it. The world looks very Albian so far. I presume this is just part of it, maybe they will have a desert and jungle too?

I'm relatively impressed with these first screenshots! The environment is a little different than what I had been expecting, but I'm certainly not disappointed. Anyone catch the hand in the far right-hand side of the image? Looks like it will be staying in the game! The rope ladders also make a lot more sense to me than the lifts: Hopefully we won't end up with Norns who continuously climb all day! My only criticism is that the graphics style is not as in-depth as it was for C1/C2, but I'm kind of spoiled when it comes to those games.

The Norn is a little different, but I like him! I believe Norngirl made a few suggestions over at Creturetopia, like larger eyes and a nose placed higher on the face. I would definitely agree with some of these suggestions: I think they're relatively minor, though. Fishing Cactus did a great job with the Norn, and I'm looking forward to seeing some more screenshots!

I love that background! It's gorgeous. I know it's a far cry from the whole grimdark thing the games have been going on but I think it's a welcome change. There's only so much gunmetal gray I can take before I start getting depressed.

That Norn, though... Yikes. Kind of on a weird side of the Uncanny Valley.

I quite like the way the new norn looks. Makes me wonder what the grendels and ettins are going to look like (if they get in - they better). I have to say the screenshot looks pretty, too. Scenery porn is good for Creatures.

Judging by this update, I'd say there's a 50% chance this'll be a worthy follow-up to the original trilogy. I doubt it'll top them, though - after all, Steve Grand's not on board any more and I have doubts that this new company will be able to handle the dDNA stuff efficiently.

That norn is freaking me out and I'm not entirely sure why.

I'm split on the shot of the environment. On the one hand, it seems too colorful to me (almost "artificial," though that's not really the best word for it), but on the other hand I'm really digging the little details like the sky cart on the right side and the rope ladders (*gasp* can they actually climb now?!). I see the hand cursor peeking out from that right edge, which is a welcomed sight.

You have to be honest with yourself when you are writing. If that leads to somewhere unexpected then perhaps you really needed to go there.

I hate feeling like such a killjoy but I'm not sure I like the Norn... I keep thinking it would be better as a cheeky character in a children's cartoon, not the complex AL look I was hoping for. Saying that, like others have said, the Norns will probably look better in the actual game. This is just a promo image and the in-game Norns will probably look more (authentic?) and grow on me! I expect Fishing Cactus have more breeds up their sleeve too.

EDIT: Although I do like the addition of the realistic-looking fur (a detail I completely missed), as ArchDragon has just pointed out to me in CC Chat; that gets a thumbs up! It's about time the Norns had 'real' fur. :)

I definitely like the environment more, after sleeping on it. Once I got past the idea that the graphics were too vibrant and cartoony for my perspective of an artificial life game, it's actually really nice to look at, especially with all those leafy trees. Is it just me, or does it seem like Fishing Cactus have been inspired by the C1 Grendel Tree in this screenshot; the style of the foliage, the rope, the basket and the coloured fabrics?

They've put a rope at each side and a snippet of the Hand in there to tease us... I can't wait to see the rest of the world!
