I was wondering if anyone could help me troubleshoot and error. I had an itch to get back into playing Creatures again, so I bought Creatures Exodus. Creatures 3 runs beautifully, but Docking Station keeps erring on start-up. I have it running with administrator permissions and in compatibility mode.
I saw a similar post on this forum, but none of that worked.
I'm running Windows 7 64bit. I had the same error on my Windows XP Media Edition laptop with a separate (non-Exodus) Docking Station installation. Oddly enough, that installation worked on my Virtual Box XP desktop (the gameplay was just way too choppy).
This is the error:
"NLE0002: The following directory doesn't exist:
.\
Make sure the configuration file entry is correct!
Windows 95/98 4.0 build 950 ()
OriginalDisplay DirectX (no modules)"
I'm thinking it's pointing to a non-existent DirectX file, but no real idea...
Slightly, OT, but not too much... Is there a Docking Station server still up and running to connect to?
Thanks for anything!

Don't know how to help you with your problem, but to my knowledge, the DS sever is currently down.

Welcome to the Creatures Caves forums, Mycenia.
Although the DS server is currently down, like CuteIzzy said, Creaturesdockingstation.com has some very useful tips on how to play offline, and also tells you how to register new worlds with a shared username and password that Don's very kindly set up - in light of the server's email functionality being offline.
I hope this helps somewhat. Good luck solving the error you have! |

Hi,
What happens when you try to run the game without compatibility mode enabled?
Right click on the shortcut that loads the game and select "Properties", "Compatibility" tab, then unselect the
"Run this game in compatibility mode for:" checkbox
The Docking Station server is online at the moment (got rebooted ), but it might go offline again as its having some troubles.

Thanks for the replies! Don, when not run in compatibility mode, the application asked to be put in 19 bit High Color (which I did). Then proceeded to crash without warning. I did figure out how to get it running: In the requested display mode, run as admin in Wndows Nt 4.0 (sp 5) mode. I was using Windows 98 before. Now it all loads up and docks (I have C12DS installed), unfortunately, I'm getting random C++ Runtime Errors and crashes. Tried the patch that's floating around for it, but that's a no-go. Oh the joys...
Edit: Doh... I meant 16 bit... |
