Hope you guys enjoy this story. I'm really proud of it. ^_^
?Eon push gadget,? the hand said.
?This is so stupid?? Eon muttered to himself.
?Eon push gadget,? the hand repeated.
?Fine. Geeze?? Eon activated the scent emitter, which then began producing a ?norn home? smell. Eon really hated it because it screwed up his sense of direction.
The hand floated away, satisfied, and Eon turn the scent emitter off again. He then walked back toward the elevator to return to the ground floor of the norn terrarium.
When the elevator hit the ground, a pumperspikel fruit nearly fell right on top of him. It shattered on the ground, and Eon reached down and scooped a few of the seeds up and started snacking on them.
?Eon, honey! Over here!? Eon looked towards the edge of the pond and saw his girlfriend, Eleanor, sitting with their friend Eric.
?The hand finally done with you?? Eric said and Eon joined them at the edge of the pond.
?Yeah, she just wanted me to turn on a stupid smell emitter. It messed up my senses though, so I turn it back off when she left.? Eric and Eleanor chuckled.
?Hey honey, guess what?? Eleanor said, leaning on Eon?s shoulder.
?The hand?s gonna throw her self into the piranha pool?? Eon guessed.
?Nope,? Eleanor said, giggling.
?The learning machine?s busted??
?Nuh-uh.?
?I give up.?
?Well, earlier today, I went over to the aquarium. And when I was there, I caught the hand having a conversation with a friend. Ya know what she said??
?I already tried guessing.?
?She?s gonna give us an IQ test.?
?Really??
?Isn?t it great? We?ll finally get a break from that control freak!?
?Awesome! When does it start??
?At midnight.?

That night, Eon could barely sleep. He couldn’t stop thinking about all the things he would do tomorrow! Go to the aquarium with Eleanor and Eric, trigger a volcanic eruption in the desert, maybe even venture into the jungle terrarium! Was it midnight yet? These next few days would be…
Eon sat up. That’s how long it will last, a few days, Eon realized. Only a few days of freedom, if that! A few lousy days and then everything will go back to normal, and she may never have an IQ test again as long as we live!
The truth of his future slowly dawned on him. He would always be a slave to the hand, always. Unless he did something about it.
Eon carefully walked across the grassy knoll, stepping over sleeping norns, and woke up Eric.
“Wha…Eon?” Eric slurred, rubbing the sleep from his eyes.
“Eric, we have to do something,” Eon whisper. “This IQ test is only gonna last a few days. We have to figure something out so that the hand will never bother us again.”
“You had to have this revelation in the middle of the night, didn’t you?” Eric yawned. “Do we have to do this now?”
“No time like the present, come on.”
Eon and Eric walked towards the edge of the grassy knoll and climbed off. They didn’t want to use the elevator; the noise could wake everyone up. They quietly walked over to the pond and sat down.
“So how are we gonna do this?” Eric asked.
Eon picked up three pumperspikel seeds and started juggling them. “First we need to find a way to undock the capillata, then –“
“What are you two doing?”
Eon dropped the pumperspikel seeds. “Eric very crowded!” Eric shouted, expecting the hand to be behind him.
Eon turned around and looked at his girlfriend. “What are you doing here?”
“I wanted to sleep under the pumperspikel tree tonight,” Eleanor explained, sitting down next to Eon.
Eon put his arm around her shoulder. “Ok, let’s get back to the plan.”

Eon, Eric, and Eleanor left the norn terrarium at dawn. Eric left quickly for the front of the bridge, and Eon and Eleanor rode the elevator down.
“How easy do you think this will be?” Eleanor asked Eon.
“Most likely not very, but you never know.”
The elevator first stopped at the medical bay. Eon was about to push the elevator button again, but Eleanor stopped him.
“Wait a sec,” Eleanor said, and ran over to the medicine dispenser and started cycling through the potions.
“What now?” Eon said.
“My little sister developed a bad cough last night, I just want to get some medicine for her, as long as we’re here. Ah, here it is.” Eleanor stopped when the sign read ‘Cough Medicine’, and she activated the machine to generate a couple bottles of cough medicine. “I’ll grab it on our way out.”
“Ok, now let’s GO,” Eon said, and grabbed her arm and pulled her back into the elevator, then sent the elevator to the bottom floor.
Eon walked over to the teleporter.
“So, let’s see how we can undock this ship….”
**********************
Eric was working his way around the bridge. His duty was to find a way to control the ship after the capillata was undocked. There didn’t seem much here: cameras of the four terrariums, a map that showed where all the creatures were, a few gadgets that weren’t useful to him. There were metal, circular pans with glowing runes that had looked promising at first, but he had already tried them. They didn’t seem to do anything.
“How does the hand control this ship? She doesn’t just let it float around in space, does she?!”
After a few more moments of searching, he hit the center of one of the pans in frustration. Suddenly it opened up from the top and smacked him on the head. Eric rubbed his head and crawled out from under the thing, then peeked over the edge.
******************
Eon and Eleanor were examining the gate in hopes of finding a way to undock the Capillata.
“I think I’ve got it,” Eleanor finally said.
“Oh yeah?”
“Well, at least a step in the right direction. See this bulge around the edge of the platform? That’s from the Capillata. When it docks it basically shoves a giant pillar into the port on the Ark. Aside from this bulge of tissue there doesn’t seem to be anything that really latches on to the ship.”
“So…we just need to cut off that bulge?”
“Not exactly. When the Capillata dockes, the port isn’t just an opening in the shell of the ship. It’s a tube. So, even if we cut off the bulge, it’s not like we could just shove the Capillata away from the ship.”
“Well that’s no help.” Eon sat down beside the portal.
“Hey it’s a start…”

Eric was hovering over his discovery. The pan had opened up into a touch-screen console, and he was trying to figure out how to use it. There were several panels, each with pictures that seemed to describe what they did, but he was having a hard time understanding them.
One of the panels nearest him had a picture of a megaphone, a layout of the Ark with several little glowing blue dots on it, and a black cylinder covered in a sort of mesh sticking out. He reached over and tapped the cylinder. The text “OUTPUT NOT SELECTED. PLEASE SELECT OUTPUT SOURCE.” appeared below it, and the Ark layout flash a few times. Eric, finally understanding what this panel did, tapped the bridge symbol, and then selected the blue dot nearest the entrance to Capillata.
“Eon, Eleanor, can you hear me?”
He could hear two swear loudly. “Eric, is that you?” Eleanor said.
“Yeah. Good news I found a control panel, and a comms system.”
“Yeah, we kinda picked up on that last part,” Eon said. “Have you gotten control of the ship?”
“Not yet. I’m still having issues understanding everything on this panel.”
“We’ll meet you up there. We’re not getting anywhere down here.”
*************************
Eon and Eric examined the panels.
“These pictures aren’t making much sense to me,” Eon said.
“I know. They might as well be runes.”
Just then, there was a BANG!, and they turned to see that Eleanor had opened another console.
Instead of there being multiple panels, there was a star chart, with a blinking red dot in the middle.
Eleanor put a finger on the red dot and dragged it to the left. Immediately they could see the stars outside the ark move to the right.
“So now we can move the ship, but we still haven’t undocked the Capillata!”
“Oh, let me see it already!” Eleanor shoved passed them and took a look at the panel. She looked at the panels for a bit, then finally pointed to one. “What do you think THIS is?”
The panel was smallish, with a few icons. One with the Capillata coming towards the Ark, a glowing one with the Capillata docked, and the last one was the Capillata moving away from the Ark.
“Oh…” Eric scratched his head and looked away. Eon stared at his feet.
Eleanor simply sighed and tapped the icon with the Capillata moving away. Immediately the Ark shook.

Heh heh. Sorry about the wait guys. I tried to keep a 'one chapter a day' thing, but school distracted me from it.
A new chapter will be up soon, I promise.

In the Jungle Terrarium, there was an unusual mound, covered in rocks, with the occasional weeds sprouting out.
When the Ark began shaking, all the rocks fell away, to reveal some kind of machine. An aperture slowly opened, and spat out two yellow eggs, which then began to hatch.
*****************
Eleanor reached out and grabbed onto Eon. Eric and Eon braced themselves on the edge of the console. After a few minutes, the shaking finally stopped.
Eleanor gave a sigh of relief.
“I…think you may have pushed the wrong button, Eli,” Eon said, his girlfriend still clinging to him.
“Let’s go check,” Eric said.
So they rode the elevator back down, and found that Capillata was indeed gone, and the tissue of the Ark was slowly forming back into a flat surface.
The three of them cheered, and Eleanor threw her arms around Eon. The hand was gone, and they could live their lives as they chose.
*******************
Eleanor fumbled around with the potions in her arms.
“Did you really need that much medicine?” Eon asked.
“Well, Annie gets allergies, so I wanted to keep some for later.’ Eleanor said.
Eon definitely was on some kind of hangover from the excitement earlier. Eric was trying to explain to the others what exactly was going on. They were definitely planning to go back to the bridge and work out the console.
“Here, let me help.” Eon took 3 of the bottles from Eleanor’s overloaded arms.
Aside from the others thinking that the Arc had developed an extension to the weather generator, all was well. Eon wondered was going to happen now. Could they use the ship to find new places, perhaps whole PLANETS to move to? Or perhaps try to find the shee? There were so many options, they were so overwhelming.
“Ok, we can go now,” Eleanor said.
The two of them rode the elevator up to the next floor, and started walking towards the norn terrarium door. They were about to open the door, when they heard the sound of another door opening to their right.
They turned and looked, and saw a green scaly beast step out of the door.

Now, to must of us, it’s quite clear what the couple was looking at. But Eon and Eleanor, never having heard of such a thing before, were confused as to what was standing before them. The creature stared at them with it’s cold eyes.
“No sudden movements,” Eric said. “Let’s just go through the door slowly….”
“Oh, get a grip,” Eleanor said. “It might be friendly.” She set down her armload of potions and walked over to the creature, bending down to eye level. “Hi there.” It grunted something that she didn’t understand. “What was that?” The creature slapped her, hard.
Eon grabbed her arm and pulled her through the door.
“What the heck was that?” Eleanor queried, rubbing her cheek.
“I don’t know. Maybe we should ask one of the elders?”
“Yeah…”
Eleanor leaned on Eon’s shoulder as they walked towards the elevator.
***************
“The hand? Gone? Are you sure?” a middle aged norn asked.
“Yes! I was there! The Capillata’s gone!” Eric said.
Mutters of disbelief came from the crowd of norns.
The elevator under the grassy knoll came up, and Eon and Eleanor stepped out. Eric approached them.
“Good, you’re here,” Eric said, walking up to them. “So, uh they don’t…er…Eleanor, what happened to your cheek?”
The fur where the creature had slapped her was falling out, barely revealing the bruise mark that it had left behind.
“It…wasn’t this bad a moment ago,” Eleanor said, rubbing her thinned out fur.
“Ok, listen. They don’t believe my story. Could you please help me out here?”
“I’m gonna get this medicine to my sister.” Eleanor said, taking the potion bottles Eon was holding. “Catch up to you later.” She walked into the crowd of norns to look for her sister.

“If you really undocked the Capillata, then maybe you could take a few of us-“
“YOU MONSTER!” Eon knew that voice. It was Eleanor’s mother, Amy. She push her way to the front of the crowd. “You freak of nature! How DARE you lay a paw on MY daughter?!”
“What’s wrong Amy?” A friend of hers asked.
“He hit Eleanor!”
“You WHAT?!” Eric stared wide-eyed at Eon.
“No! I didn’t!”
“Yes you did! You hit her so hard you tore her fur off her cheek!”
Whispers spread amongst the crowd, then whispers turned into loud talking, then they shouted names. “Monster!” “Slimebag!” “Scum!” “Cad!” “Coward!”
Eon realized then that any argument would be useless. No one else had seen the strange creature, or even heard of anything like it before. There was no way they would believe his story.
As quickly as he could, Eon ducked into the elevator and left the terrarium to head for the bridge.

Eon sat and leaned against the wall near he cheese dispenser on the bridge. 2 days had passed, and no one had come to apologize so far. Where was Eleanor in all of this? Why hadn’t she explained what really happened? Perhaps he had somehow offended her and this was her revenge?
The two consoles were still open and blinking. Eon had taken another look at them, but he still couldn’t quite make any sense out of the symbols.
Eon’s stomach grumbled. He’d been eating so much cheese, it made him sick just to look at it. He liked cheese, but this was just too much. He longed for some pumperspikel seeds or a carrot.
With a sudden burst of hope, the terrarium door opened, and Eric stepped out carrying a small sack. He looked around, then spotted Eon and walked towards him. He sat down next to Eon and untied the sack, revealing a small bounty of food from the terrarium.
"I'm still not allowed back?" Eon asked, picking up an apple and taking a bite.
"No, everyone still believes you hit Eleanor," Eric said.
"Don't you? There's no proof I didn't."
"I'm your best friend. I KNOW you. I remember when you asked Eleanor out, and I know you wouldn't have hit her."
“Speaking of Eleanor, why isn’t she saying anything?”
“Well, at about the time Amy started shouting, Eleanor….passed out.” Eon stared in shock. “And she hasn’t woken up yet.”
Eon held his head in his paws. That creature had probably made her sick. They probably didn’t have a cure in the terrarium, and no one was probably going to leave to get medicine from the dispenser
Eric looked at Eon for a bit. "But...what did happen to Eleanor?"
Eon tried his best to explain to Eric what happened. The strange green creature that came out of the jungle, and how Eleanor had tried to be kind to it.
Eric listened to this story, and it was over he started chuckling, then burst out laughing. “You’re joking, right?”
“No, I’m not!”
Eric stood up and started walking back towards the terrarium entrance.
“Eric, wait!” Eon stood up and caught up to Eric, placing his hand on Eric’s shoulder. “Would you just-“
Eric whirled around. “Listen, I don’t know what the hell is wrong with you, but-“ Eric was cut short.
“Eric right. Eon right.”

Eon and Eric stared at the Hand, who appeared to have just floated through the glass and onto the bridge. Eric started backing away towards the norn terrarium door, but Eon stayed put.
His paws clenched in anger. “Eon right.” The hand repeated, but Eon stayed put. It was all her fault. If she hadn’t decided to have this stupid IQ test in the first place, he’d still be in the terrarium and Eleanor wouldn’t be sick.
Eon picked up an apple and chucked it at the Hand, and saw her shake and turn red from the impact. Eon threw another apple at the Hand and let loose a long string of oaths. “Go away! Get out of here, we don’t need you bugging and controlling us anymore! Do you understand that? Just GO!”
The Hand floated in silence for a moment, and Eon glared at her, with Eric watching wide eyed. No on had ever disobeyed the hand before. “Well? Are you going to say something?” Eon asked.
Finally, she spoke up. “You can speak proper English?!”
Eon and Eric looked at each other. “Yeah…” Eon said.
“If someone’s hacked my computer this isn’t funny!”
--------------------------------
Eleanor gripped the grass beneath her as she felt the fir spread across her face and down her neck. The cheek where the creature had hit her was now balding and the skin beneath was turning yellow from an infection.
Her mother placed a icy cloth on her cheek. Though Amy placed it gently, to Eleanor it was a slap 10x more painful then the one the creature had dealt her. She clenched her jaw and tried to hold back a scream. “Where’s…Eon?” She wheezed.
“Don’t worry, he’s gone,” Amy said gently to her daughter. “He’ll never hurt you again.”
“Gone? N-n…” Eleanor went into a coughing fit.
Eleanor stared at the wall of the terrarium, looking out at the stars. Her vision blurred, and stars shifted and formed the shape of her long passed-away father. She’d been having hallucination for a while. Long-gone norns appearing before her, voices whispering in her ear.
She heard norns screaming in the distance. Her ears perked up, and she heard more screams gathering. She listened for a bit. Should she look behind her to see what was going on? No, she decided, it was just another hallucination, she needed to rest. She let her ears droop and drifted into unconsciousness, letting the cries for help slowly fade away.

The hand listened attentively to Eon and Eric’s story, or seemed to. She floated silently while the two recalled how they discovered the controls and undocked the Capillata. She floated over to the controls.
“I…never even knew these were here. “
“Really?” Eon asked. He though the hand would’ve known the ins and outs of the ship.
“Really.” The hand examined the controls a bit. “So, what happened after that?”
“Not a whole lot,” Eric continued. “Eon and Eleanor came back to grab some medicine for Annie while I went back to the terrarium to explain to the others what happened, and then Eon hit Eleanor…”
“I never hit her!” Eon shouted angrily. “It was-“
“Yeah yeah, some scaly green creature with cold eyes that no one had ever seen before, do you really expect me to believe that?”
“Wait…a scaly green creature?” the hand inquired.
“Yeah,” Eon replied. “That’s what hit Eleanor.”
“Uh oh.”
“Wait, you don’t actually BELIEVE him, do you?!” Eric watched the hand in disbelief.
The hand flew quickly over to a large orange pillar and pressed a button. A blue screen that seemed to show a layout of the ship appeared. Below was a symbol that seemed to be for a norn, one that looked like the strange green creature Eon and Eleanor saw, and another one that Eon couldn’t identify.
The hand tapped the one shaped like the strange green creature. Several orange dots lit up across the display.
“This is bad,” the hand said. She turned to Eon. “You! What did you DO?!” She cried, shoving herself up in Eon’s face.
“I-I don’t know, what did I do?” Eon asked nervously.
“You reactivated the Grendel egg layer!”

Ooh, Eon's a bad boy! XD
I like how the characters don't all know everything... the hand didn't know Norns could talk, the Norns didn't know what a Grendel was. I'd definitely freak out if my Norns suddenly started addressing me in full sentences.
Glad to see you're still updating!
