Hello! I have been struggling to run my creatures 1 and 2 games on my vista laptop with no success. Is there a patch I can download perhaps? Thanks! :)

If you're willing to pay, I'd say a majority of Vista users tend to opt for GOG.com's version of Creatures: The Albian Years (a compilation of C1 & C2) because it's compatible with Windows XP, Vista and 7. I bought it myself, and I can say from experience that for the $9.99 price tag it was a good investment; C2 runs like a dream and I would've never got C2 running otherwise. :) C1, maybe.

That's one possible option for you anyway.

Does C1/2 run with Dos? If yes, try DOSBox (it's free). If not, maybe google can find an emulator for whatever operatin system is required.

Not really, you need Windows 95/98 (where it was designed for) in order to run it. Windows 9x versions are technically just MS-DOS systems with an GUI running on the top of it. :)

For the emulation of them you can use Microsoft Windows Virtual PC (which is only available for Professional editions of Windows), or VMware (which sadly isn't completely free, but you have a limited free version available).

VirtualBox is an Open Source and free visualization suite, but doesn't support very well (yet).

You can try it on a Windows XP machine with all updates applied to the game, or on a old computer with Windows 95/98/Me.

But I have to say personally that the GOG.com version isn't bad, and that I use it frequently when playing Creatures 1/2 or the Albian Years. :)

I have Albian Years and cannot get Creatures 2 to play on my Vista computer. I have posted a thread on this, but wondering if anyone knows why C2 won't play, but C1 runs like a dream...

Sadly, I don't think there's much of a likelihood that the version of C2, on your The Abian Years CD, will work on Vista. :( I own the original copy of The Albian Years and use Vista, and like you, I found that C1 ran, but C2 wouldn't and just kept crashing on startup. I think it's something to do with 16-bit colour compatibility issues.

You could opt for the GOG.com version of The Albian Years, which has been programmed to work with the newer Operating Systems, (Vista/7) or try what Lembamjunior suggested, in his above post, and look into running The Albian Years on a Virtual Machine.

There's always C2toDS too; an ongoing project by Moe and Liam to bring C2 Albia to life in DS. You can download the latest Release 2.1 from here. It's so immersing that you forget you're actually playing DS and not C2! :D

I hope all this helps somewhat.
