Any 3D program (Maya, Lightwave, 3DS Max, etc.) will work, but Blender is a good one, and it's free--so even if you find out it isn't your thing, you didn't spend hundreds on it. It can be a little hard to get used to at first because there are so many features, but there are a ton of tutorials out there for all experience levels.
