MNG to MP3?

In b4 a bunch of people tell me to use MNGPlayer.

This isn't a matter of someone wanting to simply listen to MNG files. Rather, I want to use some Creatures music in a video (to be more specific, the music I'm after is the C2 Underwater theme), and I can't exactly do that while the music is in MNG format. So, I'm seeking a method to convert an MNG file/track to an MP3 (or at least a WAV file).

Unfortunately, the funky MNG format makes that a lot easier said than done. The easiest method that I can think of to accomplish it is to run MNGPlayer and a recording program at the same time, but I'm lacking of a good recording program that's free.

Does anyone else have a better idea of how such an action can be accomplished?

Audacity is a great free one!
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

hope that works for you :3

Btwn: I did start recording the music from c2 - with no creature babling, but there may be some sound effects in the background
(nature sounds mostly)..
I have one idea how to solve that,so I might re-record it again XD

Yah, I have Audacity and that works not bad. There is only 1 thing you must look for:
Do not use "Import", that won't work. Use "Import Raw". I tried this with default settings on the MNG file of Garbage Dump and it worked fine.

There is a small mean sound at the start, but I guess that is some stuff it could not decode properly, e.g. when where which track does what. That what the engine reads.

Lets play plants! Photosynthesis... Photosynthesis... Photosynthesis...

Strange O.o
for me,I just let it record,
then stops it when done,
mark the whole track and
remove the unwanted sounds
(if there is any),
and if needed - use the effects fade out and the other one who strenghten it if the recorded music/sound is not loud enough.

And then finaly I personaly export it as wav,but can be exported as mp3 too,but for me it allways ask for downloading a mp3 codec ^^'

I ony had one thing I found strange, but it only happened 2 times,so the rest of sound/music I been recording with this has been fine and therefor I leave that by the side XD

Hope you be able to use it well :3

I had Audacity, but I never thought of using it for recording MNG files.

However, while it does work, it seems to record really quietly, as well as picking up other random sounds made during recording. So far, I haven't found a way to make it louder without making it sound godawful. *Is a bit of an Audacity newb*

Directly importing the raw MNG file didn't exactly accomplish the job either - not only was there a nasty scratch sound at the beginning, it imported the file so that it played by samples, not by track - and the samples sounded really odd, too.

on Audacity make sure you have the option set on monomix (as that what I have it set on,as my settings is set on only recording "inside" the computer, also adjusting the volym
for wave to be higher on the volym control is important too.
(Is using this on a win XP )

But I do have audacity on a vista too, I had to do it a bit differ there,
as adjusting the recording for
only sounds that is inside the pc,as i call it, is a bit differ compared to win XP.

'I do know, that using the MNG by listening to the differ "riffs" (or samples as you said) of the music of C2 or C3-DS is not realy flowing like ingame.
So yes,I think thats perfectly normal.
I remember I was listening via the MNG player myself and was amazed that the songs where
kinda cut in differ parts,
making it like samples rather then a whole music tracks,so to speak XD

I think the echo

I guess you could try record
the differ "parts" of the song
and then fuse them togheter
*example: you let audacity go while you play the differ parts of the song and then you just click stop,
then mark the lines that's silent
after each sound,
remove them via choose delete and then repeat this til the parts kinda fuse togheter.
Still,I think it lacks the echo sound and stuff you usuly hear ingame when you play them,if I don't recall totaly wrong O.o'
I guess thats what you also mean by it sound strange.
I think there was an article about how the MNG files works,if I am
not too wrong.

I apologize if my explenation is very confussing and that it may not be much of help

I still gonna have a go at recording the C2 songs, without any soundeffects or noise (Yep,I have a plan of how thats gonna be done)

Whenever Im done with that,Im gonna upload it on my site..

still,in the meantime I hope someone may be able to help you with this,as I have no clue if anything of what I said is of help.
