I have tried to install this under fedora and ubuntu and it hasn't worked on either does this work on any distro out of the box without doing having to change any system settings that I don't how to do while following the original read me instructions. These are two of the most popular distros and it doesn't work on either.
PS could anyone recompile as an RPM or DEB package?

Two popular modern distros They aren't really designed for running 10 year old games.
If you can't change any system settings you're pretty much out of luck, at least with those two. I think PCLinuxOS and Mandriva might work out of the box, you'd have to use su though. |

Nope. I haven't had much luck getting sound to work. When it did, the pitch was increased. |

It is possible to run DS on newer systems. Get the program getlibs (google for it, easy to find), install it and then run"Foo", "Bar" and "Baz" you replace with the list of old libs you find here. You can enter them all at once just separated by spaces.
This way I got C3 and DS running perfectly on Ubuntu 9.10
