Do you have Creatures Exodus, or an older version of the game?
Which version of Windows are you using?

Have you tried setting your colours to 16 bit?

I'm not sure if it will help, but I posted instructions on how to install Creatures 3 on Windows Vista. My method worked for myself and one other user that I know of: Perhaps it will help you out!
Guide to Installing C3
I'm also pretty sure that Creatures 2 does not install properly due to a DirectX error... Good luck!

Run the installer as admin if you haven't (right click->run as admin), I have a retail Creatures 3 CD and that's always worked for me, Vista, 7, wherever. It's installing to your program files, and it's too old to ask, IIRC ... kinda has to have explicit admin permission.
None of C2's retail releases work post-XP, you need to get GOG.com's version that's been modified.
