Sprites all Together

Does anyone know: Is there a way to look at a whole set of sprites for a Norn all at once and save them all together so that I can go and edit them all at once instead of finding the files separately and having to open and edit them one by one?

I was hoping there was a faster and/or easier way to look at and access all the sprites for a single Norn at once.

I think the only way would be to write a macro or something to decompile the sprites all at once and save them in the way you wish, but for that you had to be quite good about any scripting language like Python, C++, VBS or similar...

Lets play plants! Photosynthesis... Photosynthesis... Photosynthesis...

I usually copy the sprite files and save the copy in a folder somewhere else on my computer (like My Documents). That way you only have to search for them once, and when you're finished editing them you can just cut and paste them back into the correct folder.

Mm...I'm not sure if I have been doing them correctly.

I was opening them with the sprite builder to view them (So I knew which ones I was copying and saving) then saving them in a folder filled with separate folders (Such as baby male head sprite, child male head sprite, baby male body sprites, etc...)Then I would open them in GIMP and paint over them and save the copy of it with a different and temporary name. But I am not sure, is this the right way to go about making sprites? I am not sure what I'm doing at all, just trying to figure it out as I go.

So I wanted to ask of those who have made Norn sprites before: How do you go about it? Is there a step by step way you can explain it? I'd love it if there was! That would be immensely helpful. :D

It sounds like what you're doing now is fine as it is. There are actually few points where there is a "right way" and a "wrong way" to make sprites--if it works, it works.

Oh okay, Well another reason I asked was because when I opened the baby head sprites for the male fox Norn, they were all there but when I opened them for the child/teen and adult stages, quite a few of them were missing, replaced with a 'faded out' picture of the baby head sprite with the expression the child and adult sprites are meant to have.

I'm not sure if I messed it up somehow or if I'm just looking in the wrong place but I did think all of the sprites for each part were grouped together.

I don't know what the normal format of body sprites is supposed to look like in C1, but that sounds really weird. What happens if you look at the same sprites for the other breeds (Pixie, Banana, etc.)--do they look the same?

Hmm, I had a look through them and it seems that the male Pixie Norn is missing one sprite but the rest of the sprites for the other Norns are all how they are supposed to be.

The ones missing are in the female fox Norn, Male Fox Norn and Male Pixie Norn folders, although the female and male Fox Norns are worst affected.

Edit: And they just happen to be the ones I want to work with/am working with.

That is really strange.
I'm not sure what to suggest, other than testing that breed in-game to see if it looks OK, and maybe redownloading it if it doesn't.

How did you copy the files in the first place? Maybe whatever program you used didn't copy them correctly or something.

Okay, I will probably uninstall and reinstall my game then try opening the files and see if they're back to normal.

I opened them with the Sprite Builder tool and then saved them one at a time into folders on my hard drive, renaming them as I went.

I then opened them in GIMP and painted on some of them. But not the ones that are missing.

Edit: Well, it looks like I was wrong. I uninstalled and reinstalled the game then went and looked at the different head sprites and sure enough, on each set above the baby stage, there's always a few small, faded out sprites of the baby heads amongst the others. I am not sure why but scoota94 said something about the sizing of them and that's just how it works. I guess I can't draw over them then. Darn! Lol.

I'll have to do them from scratch maybe.

Why not just redownload that particular breed? (Or do the Fox Norns come with the game?)

They come with my game. But, after looking through more of the sprites I think it is actually normal. I'll just make up the sprites for the ones that don't have templates and go from there. :)

For editing them graphically, not yet.

If any images or att files are not found then the game will use the images for the last life stage available; in some/many cases these images are missed out on purpose as the files would be identical to those of the younger images.

Oh okay. Thanks for clearing that up for me, Don. ^_^

I'm working on them again now and saving them as I go. Is there a format you're supposed to save them as? I mean...I have been saving them as .bmp files but can I change what I've saved them as later if I need to? GIMP wouldn't let me save them as .spr files.

Yep. SpriteEditor and SpriteBuilder can both import .bmp files and save them as the correct format, so whichever one you're using you should be fine.

Thanks Ghosthande, that is really good to know! I was worried I'd have to fiddle around with them later and might end up messing them up somehow. Lol.

I'm working on them today and so far am up to number four head of the female baby Norn. They're taking me longer than anticipated...

Edit: But after I get them finished I might work on my set of 'beauty agents' with the twisty shower and shampoo and comb etc. >w< We can never have too many agents.

Yep, yep. I'm just gonna finish what I started with the Fragment Rhodeiras first then those are the very next on my list! Our Norns need a way to get clean. Beside licking their fur that is.
