I'm curious to know whether a UK PC can play a region 1 DVD - is anyone here brainy enough to shed any light on this? Would I have to have special software, a certain type of drive, or could I just stick a region 1 DVD in and it would play, or could I not play it at all?
I feel a bit stupid not knowing anything about this - my technical knowledge just doesn't amount to much!
Anyway I'm asking this because I love the show '8 Simple Rules' (For Dating My Teenage Daughter) but series 2 is only available in region 1, not region 2. It would be great if I was able to watch it on my laptop.
Any insight would be good! Thanks guys. |

Basically, being that you live in the US, your DVDs are region 1 (or NTSC - it should say somewhere on the DVD case) and would have trouble playing in my UK DVD player which is meant to play region 2 (or PAL) DVDs. This is because different areas of the world have set DVD region codes.
I'm not very good at explaining things this time of the morning - but that's the simple gist of it anyway. Maybe someone else can give a better explanation. |

Makes sense, as american electrical appliances cannot plug into or work in europe and other foreign contries' electrical sockets.

I don't think computers' drives care about regioning.
Also come onnnn
tl;dr yes your laptop will play it, and even if its drive doesnt for some reason it's trivial to find one that will. regioning is one of the more painfully asinine inventions of the industry |

I know Google is my best friend, but when I looked, it was late in the evening and there were so many different answers; some were out of date, and others had long technical explanations I couldn't be bothered to comprehend with my tired brain - a straightfoward answer like yours is what I was looking for. I knew someone on here would know.
Cheers. (Y) |
