Is anybody else finding it all really very surreal? I am. I saw it on the news this morning and I kept thinking "He's Michael Jackson, he can't be dead?", it's as if I thought he was immortal or something.
My friend and I played Billie Jean and Thriller in the car when I gave a lift her home. It was fun.
I've moved this topic from the News forum, as whilst it is news, it is off topic news, not Creatures news. |

I know, it's very strange. I had the same reaction as Laura, such an Iconic figure surely would never die. But I felt/feel sorry for him, he was not a happy person... |

Yeah, and what's up with them both being 50 when they died? That is just so strange! May they both rest in peace.

... Who's Billy May? |

Laura - Billy Mays was a commercial/infomercial salesman with a very dark beard and a very annoying voice. He was srsly obnoxious and would yell at people to buy his products. But as annoying as he was, he was really fun to hate. And now that he's passed away its no fun anymore. I'll admit, I'm a bit sad about this one.
Here's a tribute so you can see who he was - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B7kBDt-iPW0
Yes, I'm the forum ... Any questions?

Ha ha, angel, I rather agree with you. I know so many people who are like "wow, I love Billy Mays commercials" but I really couldn't stand them. Alas, its still rather sad when anyone dies, annoying or not.

Just shout at me, but I don't feel really sorry for the death of Michael Jackson. There were some scandals about him and I think they are true.
I don't say which ones I mean, it would raise the age limit of this thread...
My oppinion: he paid the parents of them not to sue him.

Certainly, Papriko, he was not without his controversies, but from my understanding he did not have the best childhood. Unfortunately, all people have their problems but when you are in the public eye everyone know about them.

No one's gonna shout at you for having an opinion Papriko, and thank you for keeping this topic PG.
Can I add my two cents? When I consider the controversies, I try to bear in mind that it's all scandal and rumours, dissected and manipulated by the media for their own conclusions. Whatever claims are out there, there is still no concrete proof which supports those claims being true. |

agentrok, please keep things PG. Saying something uncomfortable about MJ for the sheer sake of it, using the defence of 'heres a fact for you' is likely to make people sadder. Thanks.

Although this is strictly my opinion, I don't believe any of those scandals. They were probably made up just to gain money of Michael. Besides, there is no evidence to support this, so the chances of it being true are rather slim.
Anyway, I though he was a fantastic singer whether this be true or not, and there will never be another singer like him. |

Who watched his memorial on TV today? I watched bits - I thought Jermaine Jackson's rendition of 'Smile' was very moving, as was his daughter Paris's tribute at the end. |

I was more moved by the memorial than I thought I would be. My thoughts concerning Jackson aside, I was deeply touched by seeing so many people in mourning and I felt horrible for his friends and family when it was so clear they lost someone so close to them. I was doing fine until the very end: when his daughter went up to the mike I completely lost it.
You have to be honest with yourself when you are writing. If that leads to somewhere unexpected then perhaps you really needed to go there.
