After 3 months of settling into my job, I'm just curious as to what other people's jobs are.
If you're too young to have a paid job or don't work, do you do any voluntary work or have any ideas as to what you'd like to do? What subjects do you study at school? Let's talk vocations!
(Although please don't be specific about the location of where you work, or the name of your school, otherwise I might get my wrist slapped!)
I personally work part-time as a 'Customer Service Assistant' (which is really a posh name for 'Checkout Monkey') at a supermarket. I get to serve, help and interact with the customers, scan stuff, and deny the selling of alcohol to the under 18s... Fun.
However, when I finally graduate from university with my shiny new BA (Hons) English and Creative Writing degree, I *think* (I always seem to be changing my mind) I'd like to either train to be a teacher, or work in publishing, with a bit of writing on the side. |

I work at a paper pulp testing laboratory. My job is to clean glassware, fix the roof, grind samples, sift samples, sweep stuff, clean stuff. And take away the 35 years of crud and corruption.
It's actually quite fun.
On the side, I'm working on a porfolio to help me get into the animationg/graphic arts/ and gaming industry. |

What exactly is paper pulp, paper pulp testing, and why does it need to be tested? Sorry, I'm just being curious. |

Pulp and Paper testing is where companies give anything from paper, pulp, woodchip to hunks of trees for us to test in any matter of what they want.
Quaility, usage, byproduts etc etc
We just help the paper and pulp industry all we can. :] |

I'm a professional dog groomer. I work in a small shop once a week, for three and a half years now. I actually went to the NY School of Dog Grooming a few years back.
I volunteer at a fancy schmancy animal shelter in the city, primarily as a dog walker, but also for any tasks that they need help with.
I'm also a pre-vet student and I'll be entering my senior year at college next week, after which i... will probably stay another year to polish my courses and then apply to Vet school.
Yes, I'm the forum ... Any questions?

Eighth grade is the biggest job I've got at the moment. x3 It's coming up (on the day Spore comes out, of all days) on September 7th in my area.
As a sub-project, I'm working on a novel which I hope to get published someday, but that'll never happen. xD

I found out a week ago I got As in English and Philosophy for my AS levels, spiffy! Lets not talk about history though...
I did a lot of volunteering at a cluster of charity shops this summer, but I'll probably drop pretty much all of that now college is starting again. I'm such a lazy bugger.
And a few of us managed to earn enough for lunch busking in Winchester. Damnit, our poetry readings seemed so impressive until some arse with fire poy decided to set up next to us!
And judging from the total lack of reply I've been rejected from Waterstones for the second time. Looks like I'll never get a real job.
Laura, where did you study for English? Its the only thing I'd really like to do after college (apart from philosophy, but I see no future in that). Where else is good(ish) for English? I doubt I'll be a triple A student so Oxbridge, Durham etc are quite heavly blotted off the list.

DG, I've sent you a PM.
I volunteered in a charity shop too, for about 3 years. I was kinda glad to leave though when I got my job. The other volunteers were a great bunch people, but the new manageress who took over would push and push people's kindness. She would call or text to bring you in, and then she and the rest of the paid staff would do seemingly nothing all afternoon, whilst you did all the work on the shop floor. These are just my experiences mind, but it just started to feel like a really thankless job. It's a shame because I used to really enjoy working there. |
