Has anyone here ever had an experience with a tornado? Even though the UK "supposedly" has more tornadoes than any other country, I have never seen one through my own eyes. If anyone has seen or has had to flee a tornado, I'd be interested to hear about it. |

You're joking right? We "Tornado Alley" people here have better tornadoes than anyone - And I've never heard of such silly "fact."
Anyway.. Yes, I've had an experience. With this on-going climate change, we've had some new incidents happen.. I know many have heard of the Greensbug incident, but anyone heard of the Salt Lake City tornado? It was hardly an F2, but it sure was one of a kind - It hit a city with skyscrapers...
I lived a short distance north of Salt Lake City at the time (August 98 I believe) but the storm was so big that its winds shredded our roof, threw debris all over the place, and vibrated the windows with its thunder.. Also, it knocked all of northern Utah's power.
Since that tornado, I always had nightmares of them until I moved out here to NW Washington. I still do love them, though!

no, but we had an earthquake
but it wasn't a big one and i slept like a log right the way through it. which is weird because it was the only night i went to bed early. it was around 2AM which isn't that late to be honest.
i saw a website that explained how england has the most tornadoes, but i forget where and what it said |

Is this the most reported, or can they measure tordadoe frequencey even in unpopulated places? England is pretty densey populated.
Just it seems a bit of an odd statistic. We go bonkers if there's a couple of inches of floodwater here, the weather rarely seems to exceed drizzle.

You're not the only ones - Washington state here is just as pathetic. These people panic when we get an inch of snow, complain when the temperature goes above 60, freeze when it hits 40, and bow to the sun if it EVER shows up.
Oh, and it raaaains like you won't believe. Infact, we've got records for the largest amount of annual rainfall! Go us! . . . Not.

we're the same. when it gets hot or the sun comes out, all the nerds retreat to their bedrooms and everyone else runs outside and bakes. that's like, 2 days a year, then they call it british summertime (what) and the rest of the year, its miserable xD fog, rain, gloom, general unhappiness (personally, i love it. i LOVE fog. i love it i love it).
when i went on holiday to spain, i wasn't used to the heat so i spent five minutes outside, and just fainted on the spot. was funny. next thing i remember was on was in the hotel. on the bed. my dad was asleep and my mam was watching TV. xDDDD then when we came back to newcastle airport (yay newcastle! (not)) it was raining and i froze. also, i got a suntan from spain that didn't go away until 2 years later. really.

heh
i moan about a lot of things. like bus lanes. and caravan drivers. and that car that rides around with pimped up grills that's made from the same stuff as those funny metal floors. y'know, the ones with the diamond shaped lumps on them that clunk when you step on them. we call it carpet |

yes, i have had many tornado experiences. and have pictures and videos
most recently, this one. just happened to be driving through a neighboring town to the one that hit at the time. i didn't take that video, but it's pretty freaking awesome.
half-melted hail from a tornado that hit a couple years ago
my first tornado, i was about five or so, in oklahoma. i don't remember much except for sitting in the bathroom under a mattress eating m&ms
i adore tornadoes!

The closest I've ever been to a tornado is a flash flood in Wales. |

Even just watching shows about tornadoes freaks me out. No, I've never been through one, and I don't want to, either. Unless I'm in a VERY safe place. Then it would be awesome.
I love the climate here in northwestern Oregon, rain and all. I practically hate the sun, because then all the bugs come out and it gets hot. Only good thing is at that time of year birds start singing(I'm a hobbyist sound recordist, yay!) Erm...is recordist a word? I don't know what you call them...
Every winter we get flooding in the lowlands. I live on a bluff, so no worries here. But we get a LOT of wind. We had the worst storm in recent history last December. Trees were going CRASH, THUD, all night. Nothing came through the house luckily, but the roof was wrecked on the south side. It needed to be replaced, anyway. XD

I got to sit out an enormous multi-vortex tornado... system?... when I was in Kansas.
We decided to pick up camp when some local guy came out and offered to share his storm shelter with us. Then the vortices started blocking off the highways and things. That was interesting.
Britain has the most tornadoes per area? Could've fooled me, I didn't know you got a lot of wind over there. Yes, it's measurable, tornadoes can usually be spotted on radar and when you have only that much mass to radar-cover...
Further, living in Florida when I was but a gryphling, tornadoes laid complete waste to huge areas scant miles from our house. There's an entire urban lexicon of tornado-related legends down here. We haven't had a good hurricane in a few years now, I'm disappointed.
...don't quote me on that, but y'know. it IS florida. |
