i know by now some of the members here are getting older... old enough to sign that good old consent form at the neighborhood piercing parlor!
does anyone else have any body mods? piercings or tattoos? share yours.
myself, i have two piercings on each ear, both stretched (one at 00g, one at 8g), a vertical labret piercing (goes through the bottom of my lower lip and out the top, so the ball rests between my lips), a tongue piercing, a septum piercing, a bridge piercing (that fleshy part at the top of your nose between your eyes) and two tattoos, one on each shoulder. one is of a curvy road sign that my best friend and i got together, that has personal significance, and the other is of the triforce from legends of zelda.
i'm sure i'm probably the most modified person here, but if anyone else wants to talk piercings or tattoos, here's the place to do it!
also, i'm super experienced with that sort of stuff, so if anyone is considering piercings or tattoos (legally and safely of course) feel free to ask me any questions you want!

My ears are pierced, but I really only got them pierced because my younger sister didn't want to get hers done alone (...I think that's how I was talked into it). I wear earrings all of two or three times a year, if that. >_>
I am not a jewelery person. It can look brilliant on other people (I'm kind of envious of my baby sister's triple ear piercings), but I just can't get myself to put forth the money or effort for it. I wouldn't mind a tattoo, but it would have to be a small, easily hideable one (future profession probably wouldn't allow anything beyond that ), and I'd have to make darn sure it was something I wanted to keep for the rest of my life.
You have to be honest with yourself when you are writing. If that leads to somewhere unexpected then perhaps you really needed to go there.

I just have my ears pierced (the normal one hole in each ear). I got them when I was 14 years old, (maternal family tradition) and I still usually only wear the studs I got with the holes, because they're a bit of a pain to take out. When I got them on my 14th birthday, I went to school and all I could focus on for the rest of the day were other people's earrings. o_O One of my friends has a tattoo of Tigger from Winnie The Pooh on her ankle.

there was a time someone grabbed a hold of my body, thrusted a cold, metalic instrument to it, and ripped a hole through my flesh. it was awful, and I cried... I bled everywhe. . .
Okay so I'm just joking! I've got normal earring peircings and a tattoo.

I was gunned the second time I had my ears done (just the lobes) - two people either side of me with the gun on each ear, pierced both at the same time. |

No offence, but I don't personally like the idea of getting body piercings. For one thing, the must really hurt when you have them done, and to me they can look really gross, but I totally agree if people think otherwise and find them attractive. |

I didn't know they still did needle piercings on ears. I got the gun.

I'm afraid that stuff that sticks with me for the rest of my life gives me chronic fear, so I entirely doubt I'll ever get piercings or tattoos. Besides, I never was that kind of person, anyway.

well... gun piercings are far, far more painful than needle piercings. i'm surprised they still do gun piercings at all. don't get me started, haha.
i dunno, i don't think they really hurt at all. i've never had a piercing that was much worse than a sort of "ah, a needle just went through me" feeling.
i passed out the only time i got a gunned piercing (my ears, the first time, when i was 8. long since sealed and pierced over)

Because, you know, it's a totally natural thing to have a needle just go through you. I have heard that gunned piercings hurt more (mine were gunned). I have a freckle on one of my ear lobes, and when I was very young (5 or 6?) and the other kids didn't know better yet, they always used to ask me if I had my ear pierced. XD I was like, nooo, see, my other one isn't done!!!
I have this awesome earring from my grandmother, though. It's of a marijuana leaf, and she lost the pair quite some time ago. She tells me the 70s were a more innocent time. I hope that one of my brothers, or perhaps even my future son or nephew gets his ear pierced so I can give him this earring.

From having my ears done with the gun, I don't know if I can ever recall it "hurting" as such... It was over so quickly, because they did both ears at the same time, it was more like a really hot, searing sensation, rather than a sharp pain. Then again, it was only my ear lobes, I don't know what having it done on your cartiledge is like. |

that sounds like a pretty rad earring, malkin! did you get your piercing over your freckle? haha
oh man, not that having a needle shoved through you is at all natural (though it's age-old!) but when you get something gunned they're shoving a blunt, solid object through with a great degree of force and crushing the flesh to create the hole rather than just creating a neat, almost non-traumatic little circular wound like a needle does ear piercing guns can't be cleaned or autoclaved either and the people wielding them are usually high school kids who did a three day course (or less!) rather than reliable professionals that have had years of training.
not that i have anything against anyone that gets their ears done with a gun, and most of them turn out alright in the end. i think it's more about a lack of knowledge/fear of needles/cultural tradition thing than anything, but i've heard and seen enough horror stories first hand about gunned piercings that i really really believe they should be banned.
it's a little thing, i know, and something most people are pretty unconcerned about, but i'm just surprised that such a major health risk (think of how many children get their ears gunned!) is allowed to continue.
also, laura, i hear getting your cartilage gunned is utterly brutal. my friend got hers done that way and got a massive infection and the cartilage collapsed, so she had to have plastic surgery to correct it. that sort of thing terrifies me! yikes.
