Indie games are awesome and the future of gaming and all that. Plus they're often free and small and innovative.
So, what's your favourite Indie Game? Links please! But make sure the content of the game and it's website is appropriate for all ages. If you wouldn't show it to your Norns, don't show it to us.
One of my favourites right now is Dino Run. You get to be this little dinosaur that gets chased by the meteor's shockwave. You have to run, jump and even ride your way to safety while rescuing eggs and eating stuff.
There's loads of extra levels to unlock and plenty of little secrets, like trophies and hats stat upgrades.

Do 'free clones of classics' count as "Indie Games"? Then (Mac only, sorry!) JewelToy - it's a Bejeweled clone - you make matches of more than three and they vanish off the screen. Very simple, very addictive.

This is completely off-topic, but does anyone remember the mouse and cheese game for Windows 95? The mouse pushed around blocks to find cheese in a maze sort of place, and I think on upper levels there were cats or something. I wish I could download it somewhere.
Similarly, there was a really cool game for old Macs that was called Spin Doctor I think. I wish i had that one as well.

Dwarf Fortress, undeniably.
A two-man team of rogue-like, strategy, simulation madness.

Good idea for a topic!
My boyfriend emailed me a game he plays at work - Cat Cannon - You shoot a puddy tat out of a cannon snd see how far it soars before it hits the ground/Venus Fly Trap/Spikes. I find there's a fair bit of skill required.
Contains cartoon violence and blood. Not suitable for vegetarian Norns. |

This one is very, very hard:
Don't shoot the Puppy.
At first it may seem very silly, but after 'playing' a few levels you'll notice how the game tricks your mind.
There's puppies getting shot in this one, but it's actually a teleporter gun teleporting the puppy to a happy place.

Rascii--I remember that game! I think it was in an earlier version of Windows as well, because I remember playing it in 1992-93. There was also a game called Klotsky that I really liked.
Wow...it's weird thinking back that far. :p
Anyway, my favorite Indie games are Venture Africa and Venture Arctic. |

Indie games are games made by very small teams without any big companies involved. That way they get to make the most unique games ever since they're not constrained by marketing and development costs and the like.

Oh god that's an easy question. Star Control 2 without a doubt. It's just so awesome on so many levels. You play as "the captain", which you can name after yourself. You were born on the planet Vela, where some scientists got stranded a century or so ago. During your generation, an ancient Precursor shipyard. You help build a ship, and return to Earth to get help... and I'm not going to spoil anything else. That was just about half of the prolouge. There's so much more you can do it'll take you weeks to beat it if you play non-stop with no walkthroughs. An XP port of it was made recently, which can be downloaded here.
It's just such a great game... The gameplay, the characters, the story... very memorable. That there in my avatar is an alien from the game called a Yehat. Here's an excellent fansite with tons of info.
ps. I haven't played Monster Raannnrrrnnchhdoggy |

EvilSpirit, The Ur-Quan Masters is amazing, but a bit repetitive when you have to keep running back and forth from planets for goods. =O
The enemies are the best in almost any game, too!
