I'm expected to go to a party in the next few nights, but I just remembered that I couldn't fit it in my schedual! The problem is, my friend that's hosting the party is very emotional and can freak out really easily. She also has fast mood swings, which can make things difficult.
I haven't told her about it yet because I'm afraid of what the outcome might be. Who knows a way on how I can break it to her without sending her off the deep end?

You could tell her the truth, that you can't make it, you've got something important on and be very apologetic about it.
Or you could just tell her you're ill? But she could find out your not and that wouldn't be good. |

I agree with what Megan said about telling her the truth, it would be much better for both of you in the long run, and you'd have no lies to keep track of.
If she's your friend she should understand and know you wouldn't let her down on purpose... Maybe you should get her a little present anyway, to say thank you for the invite, and suggest another time where the both of you can spend some time together and have fun, to make up for it? That would be a good way of "softening the blow" as it were. |

OK. I called her and told her the truth, and thankfully, I caught her in one of her rare "calm moments," so she didn't blow me out of the state. But, I'm home free! If the matter starts rousing again, I'll post back here.

I'm actually in the opposite situation - I've organised a biggish party, and no-one's RSVPed! (RSVPs were due on Wednesday, and now it's Sunday.. and the party's next weekend!!!) I mean, I could understand if something not-get-outtable was going on, but lots of people haven't even bothered to ring me up. I'll still have fun anyway though - otherwise what's the point? Maybe I'll go out with them at some other time.
