Are you, or were you ever, a Disney fan? Do you remember the old films from your childhood with a fondness? Like me, do you think Disney has gone off the deep end by pushing sequels, prequels and remakes too far, and now it?s too late to throw them a lifejacket?
My childhood was centered on the original Disney Classics (such as Beauty and the Beast, 101 Dalmatians, The Hunchback of Notre Dame etc.), and now I?ve learnt that Disney has finally decided to halt those straight-to-video sequels. Shame... I was really looking forward to ?The Hunchback of Notre Dame III? and ?The Little Mermaid VI ? Mermaids In Space?.
Perhaps not. This news pleases me. Disney have, in my eyes, ruined so many classics, like ?Bambi?, ?Lady and the Tramp? and ?The Hunchback of Notre Dame? by creating, what seemed to be, rushed and cheaply produced sequels just in order to make some quick money. When I think about that terrible ?The Hunchback of Notre Dame II?, for example, it was completely unneccessary. Victor Hugo?s novel, upon which the original animated feature was based on, didn?t have a sequel. Quasimodo died in the book. He didn?t start a new life outside the Cathedral, he wasn't gallivanting around Paris with a pretty lass and a magician.
I think if it had carried on for much longer, Disney would?ve just continued to take the magic out of all the Disney films we saw as kids, and they've already done enough damage to that extent. I don?t reckon that the next generation of children will ever be able to experience the feeling of sitting down to a real, 2D, hand-drawn Disney classic like we did - the ones where you saw them in the cinema, and then waited eagerly, for months afterwards, for them to be released on video. I remember I used to get so excited about an upcoming Disney release, my Mum used to pre-order the videos for me, to ensure I got a copy. I wish they?d cut-out the computerized 3D animated crap out too, but that?s just me.
Sorry, this has kind of turned into a rant, but I'd like to know what you all think. |

I used to enjoy all of those Disney classics; when I was three, those were all I ever watched on TV. I loved watching the old cartoons about Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, Chip and Dale, etc.
I think they could've stopped just at "Bambi" "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" and "Lady and the Tramp," but I hated the sequals. They were obviously rushed in their making.
Disney was, in my personal opinion, ruining the magic. Like Laura, I doubt that the kids of the future will be able to watch origional classics, aside from those we have in DVD box sets or on video casset.
That's my opinion on this matter.

I too grew up in the Disney classics era and remember going to see Pocahontas/Hunchback/well ALL of them in the cinema.
All the sequels are just really dampening the charm of the originals and I don't like it at all |

I like all the original movies, but generally I don't like Disney. All the crap on Disney channel drives me insane. |

I actually really liked the tie-in TV series they used to make... like The Further Adventures of Aladdin or The Little Mermaid. I do remember being annoyed not knowing if the Little Mermaid one happened before or after the movie, so to speak, though. XP

I'm a Disney fan, alright. If I handed you all of my Disney stuff, you'd be crushed. I even have a little toy Maleficent dragon I play with. Several, in fact. ^_^ And I agree with Draconorn on Disney Channel. *Stuffs tissues in ears as Hannah Montana comes on*
ps. I haven't played Monster Raannnrrrnnchhdoggy |
