are you going to get it? why or why not? do you read harry potter? are you excited? when are you going to get it?
i personally love hp and plan to go to a release party the night of the 20th. i've gotten sucked in, especially since the 3rd book. i'm really excited for this and kind of sad at the same time... after all, the first book came out ages ago, and i've been following the series for years.
can we keep this a spoiler free zone though? i'd rather remain in a state of denial about the spoilers i've already seen. feel free to speculate, though.

I've read all the Harry Potter books so far. Azkaban is definitely my favourite, followed closely by Goblet of Fire. After that, I kind of feel that the books went downhill a little bit.
But I'm still pretty excited about the final book. My Mum is going to go out early on Saturday whilst I'm at work and buy it for me. I'm looking forward to opening it, and sniffing that new book smell. But I am a little skeptical too... I just hope it's nothing like Harry Potter and the Half-Baked Plot Half-Blood Prince, (what a disappointing read that was. It felt like I was reading a fanfic, IMO).
Saying that, I always feel gutted when I finish a HP book, and it's gonna be even worse with this one because there won't be anymore to follow. It'll be like the end of an era, won't it?
It occurred to me that both Harry and Voldemort might die together, if you see what I mean. Just an idea I had. |

I never read the sixth book, surprisingly. I've always been partial to the Prisoner of Azkaban, myself, anyway. My mom and dad, I swear, are waiting at a starting gate for a race to the nearest bookstore to get The Deathly Hollows.
I think it'll be kind of sad when it's over. Perhaps the writer (who is now richer than the queen of England) may make another seiries that we'll just be dying to read.
Just a thought. But I'm definately getting the seventh book.

I'd definitely read Half-Blood Prince first, Hawksight, otherwise Deathly Hallows won't make much sense to you. |

I understand. My mom told me that the Half-Blood Prince is like the first half to the Deathly Hollows. I'm going to start reading it today. There's not much to do when you're out sick in bed.

Nah, the seventh book actually feels like it's own and is far more like the first five in format (in my opinion). The sixth was just terrible.
I imagine that some people will like it and some won't. Let's just hope it's satisfying enough not to not cause TOO much controversy in years to come. |

Yeah... I've heard about the sixth book being not as good or as well written as the other five that are out right now. There are rumors going about my summer school that the Deathly Hollows would be just as bad.
...I don't believe them. I think that book seven will be great *heads to Barnes and Noble*

I like HP, but I'm not particularly excited about the last book coming out. Sure I'll read it, but I have my own book to worry about and I'm very ashamed to say that comes first
If you want my opinion, I reckon Malfoy's gonna die. I think he'll finally start being nice, and then sacrifice himself or something like that. XD |

I'm not going to read it for years and years, I think. I've not even read book six yet. I think the horcrux mcguffin is a bit late-discovered? I'd have appreciated it if Rowling had brought it in earlier.

Malkin: You really should read book six first. It might seem like it was done in a rushed, slipshod way, but it gives info that makes book seven seem clearer. And, it's an off-topic question, I know, but who's Rowling?
...like I said above, I don't believe that book seven will be as badly written as book six. I hope that it's ending is happy, though...

Ohgawd.
Ohhhhhgawd.
I finished the book half an hour ago. I don't want to spoil anyone, but I have to rant, so....
Damn it, she killed off 75% of my favorite characters! D:
I'm... I'm not sure how much I can say right now, given many of you probably haven't finished it yet. I liked it (certainly better than book 6, save for the epilogue, which read like, erm, mediocre fanfiction), but some of thsoe deaths just hit me really hard.
You have to be honest with yourself when you are writing. If that leads to somewhere unexpected then perhaps you really needed to go there.

Never read the seventh book yet, and never plan to- I agree with many. To me, ever since the 6th book things went seriously downhill The sixth was terrible, the fifth was.. Boring.. My favorite remains the fourth.

I'm reading it now....I can't believe they killled-*clamps hand over mouth*-! It's actaully really good. I'm not a HUGE HP fan, but I've seen all the movies and got all the books. That's as far as I'm takening my collection. No further unlike one of my friends....

I must have a lot of will power - I only read 8 chapters so far, but I've decided to save the rest until I go into hospital on Sunday - I need something good to read whilst I'm there, and I think HP 7 will really lift my spirits, you know? Hospital is such a boring and depressive place.
I've really enjoyed what I've read so far though, it's taken a lot to put it down and tell myself "No." until Sunday. I've had 2 surprises already, and I've only read 140-odd pages! Until then I think I'll just re-read and familarise myself with Half-Blood Prince, since I've virtually forgotten what happens (apart from the ending, of course). |

During the story, it basically gets grimmer and grimmer, in my opinion. But I liked the ending, and I will say not a word more.

Book Six was completely awful. Every chapter was a real chore to read. The plot was weak, scatty and resolved with a weird ending.
I went to get Deathly Hallows at midnight. It was so much fun. I read the first chapter in the queue.
I got home, stayed up all night with cola and sweets and just steamed through the whole book in ten hours.
I quite enjoyed it, but at the same time, it was depressing, not only because of the grim nature of the book, but because I knew it was the last in the series. I've grown up with Harry Potter.
Part of me hates J.K Rowling for the deaths. I think she knew she was going to completely destroy people by doing that. Especially with *THAT* chapter. I also didn't like the complete lack of respect she gave a certain death. She dedicated what, about, a brief two lines to it? That quite annoyed me.
I didn't like the epilouge either. Very sketchy and half the people I wanted to know about weren't mentioned.
Loads happened in the beginning, loads happened in the end, but there was a sort of slight drag in the middle. However, it was an enjoyment to read and I'll definately be reading it again soon. |

slightly ot...
lol, in my granddad's autobiography thus far, he devotes two lines to my auntie's birth. XD I *so* told him off for that, and he *said* he'd expand that bit, but it won't be expanded for ages yet.
Given that the reception seems to be poor for book 5 (hormonal Harry was annoying) 6 (horcrux mcguffins etc.) and parts of book 7 (*why oh why did so-and-so have to die???*), I'm wondering if any of the Harry Potter fanfiction out there is incorporating the events of those books??? That interests me even more than the canon, really. XD I'm just silly like that. Does anyone have any fanfic recommendations?
Is anyone here Potter-mad enough to get the Harry Potter Encyclopedia when it comes out? (In a few years or even later)

I'll definately be buying it. Even though I know I'll be making lots of men at Bloomsbury even richer.
Even though the deaths in Book Seven annoyed/upset me, I wouldn't want it any other way. If they'd kept alive every one of the favourite characters it would have been un-realistic and completely patronising to the reader.
Yeah, I got kind of annoyed that JK didn't expand on that death more, especially as the character in question was quite possibly my favourite character of the whole series.
It just seemed to be "Oh and there's so and so's dead body lying over there peacefully" and then moved on to something completely different XD |

*slaps hand over mouth* Not a word more I will say, other than that I, too, think it's unfair and annoying to have only two lines devoted to *that* death.

I guess I'm going against the grain, but the 5th one was my favorite. Umbridge was the best villian ever, and yes, Harry was a whiny [censored], but the D.A. was fun.
And that scene when Fred and George leave the school had to have been the best thing ever.
Moving forward a bit, I'd say the last one was very good. I enjoyed it thoroughly. :]

True dat, though. But by that point, I really didn't want anymore details. ><
Yes, the epilouge was cheesey, but that can be forgiven. I really wanted to know what other people were doing, though...
This gives you some imput on what some of the other characters moved on to do, if you're interested:
