yes, I know this is not anything creatures-related but I really, really need someone's help. I have noticed some...severe... signs of cancer or a benine tumor, but I told my mom and she does'nt believe me. It's such a very obvious lump of something that you'd think she would have believed me, but of cource she just did that motherly "I'm sure it's nothing" kinda thing with me. And absolutely positively I'm sure it's a tumor and she does not listen or believe me. Any one have a suggestion on how to make her listen to me? Please, I need help now, I may be running out of time.
PLEASE moderators don't delete this, I need some one to post on this and I didn't have any where else to get suggestions.

That's awful! What I'd do is say in a stern voice, "Look, Mom, can I see you for a second..." Then your mom can meet you someplace where prying eyes can't see, like in the bathroom. Then show her the tumor and repeat what you've been saying: that you're almost certain you have cancer or benine tumor and might need medical attention. She might then take this seriously and let you see a doctor. Just be persistent, keep talking, and drive your mom up the wall.
Let me know if it works!

On... you? Oh my god... okay, staying calm. Repeatedly tell her that you need to see a doctor until she takes you.
You're in a bad spot to be in. Don't let this possible brain tumor get to your thoughts. Think positive.
*Panics again*
And don't die on us.
I'm not helping, I know. Listen to me, Ettinlogic. Do anything to get your mom to take you to a doctor.

Okay....*Panics because evilspirit has actually panicked*....alrighty I'll prod her until she pulls out her hair . It's kinda wierd though, 'cause other than this my health is in superior condition....I have never broken a bone, have perfect red/white blood cell count and blood pressure/heartbeat, never gotten heartburn or an ulcer, never fainted, only once had surgery because off appendicitis, and almost never eat fast food, only when I'm forced to. (tight scedule) - it just seems kind of strange that I would get into something this serious. Thanks so much guys, by the way, luv ya!

She's probably saying not to worry because she's trying to convince herself not to. I agree with the others, keep on at her until she does take you to the doctors. These things usually check out to be okay but there's always that risk and you just can't take it. Hope things work out for you.

That's right... keep prodding her... ![[devil] [devil]](/images/smilies/devil.gif)
Get your mom to schedual an appointment with the doctor, and tell her it's "just for reassurance." If she refuses, then, as stated by EvilSpirit (ES, if you will), do anything to get your mom to take you to the doctor!!! Be patient and I hope your mom will see the sense in this soon!
...I hope it turns out to be nothing serious...

Self diagnosis is NEVER a good idea... I've done it a few times and it just causes so much unnecessary worry that I've promised myself to never look up symptoms again! After all, we aren't the ones with a degree in medicine, are we? It could be a number of different things, of which cancer is one of the least likely. If you've found a lump, it could be a simple infection of some kind that has caused your lymph nodes to swell up. I found a lump in my armpit a month or so ago and of course I was worried, but it just turned out to be a swollen lymph node. It's gone now.
You should probably see your doctor just to put your mind at ease, but rest assured it's very unlikely to be Cancer - especially considering your age and good health. There are many more other simple explanations so don't assume the worst and try not to worry. |

Try not to worry. maybe you should ask your mom to go and check it out.
oh yeah, once i had a lump on my elbow and i got it checked out but it wasn't anything. for me it was some fatty tissue. it's probably the same thing .

Remain calm, don't panic, just get it checked out, and Laura is 100% correct, don't diagnose yourself, let a professional.

Okay, all you have a very good point. This whole thing could be causing needless worry....yet I think it's still best to get ot checked out?
PS: Thanks for the link, Laura you're great

As far as we know ettinlogic hasn't mentioned where the lump is on her body. Saying that it could be something as serious and as unlikely as a brain tumour is ludicrous really. Just trying to be logical here - we're trying to reassure her, not frighten the life out of her.
ettinlogic: You should just get it checked out just to put your mind at rest. Like we've said, it could be anything. |

I mean you no offense EvilSpirit, but that was a pretty half-baked comment. Brain tumors are generally undetectable by normal physical means- the symptoms are more along the lines of sudden epilepsy and a feeling of pressure inside the head. Nothing as helpful as a lump.

Okay, Laura & Jacob & others have said it - stay calm. A note from the HHGTTG - "Don't Panic!". Right, self diagnosis generally leaves you assuming the worst. Self Diagnosis leads to one thing - panic/stress over assuming the worst. Now, take a step back, EVERYONE. The thing to do about an unusual lump - go to a doctor, stay calm & let the doctor check it out. It could be any number of simple, mostly harmless things. Cancer isn't the only thing that causes strange lumps, as several people have pointed out. Hell, I get a lump on my jaw now & then - just a blocked gland that goes away after a week or so. Had it checked to be safe, end of story.
As for people going from "unknown lump" to "brain tumor" I have a question - how do you notice a brain tumor through a skull?

Just wait for your mom to take you to the doctor and see what the doctor says. Remember, there's a huge probability that it's not too serious.

Well done for getting it checked out, mystery lumps are always a scare, but like Laura said, Cancer is the least likeliest explanation.
I had two lumps on my ear last year, but I got them checked out and they were just swollen glands. |

As nice as your post was C-Rex, please don't revive old discussion topics like these, look at the last post date - nobody's posted in this for months. When that happens to a topic we prefer to just let them sink to the bottom of the topic index.
