It certainly wasn't palatable for the Norse Gods...
Loki, a bitter trickster god-giant who hung out with the Aesir gods (the warmongers) had a debt to a giant that he couldn't pay. The giant said that he wanted to marry Idunn, the keeper of the golden apples which gave eternal youth and health in exchange. Loki arranged the switch, despite Idunn being married to Bragi the poet... The Aesir soon realised that Idunn was gone, and they began to lose their strength and vitality. Odin, king of the gods, charged Loki with bringing back Idunn. Loki borrowed Freya the huntress's eagle skin, which would transform him into an eagle, and flew off to the giant's stronghold. Loki transformed Idunn into a nut, which he held in his beak as he flew away from the giant.
