Hiya everyone, Today I wanted to visit Creaturetopia again, but I noticed that almost all forums were hidden. When I tried to reset my password, I didn't get a password reset email either. I know that the email and registration systems have been disabled because there was lots of spam, but this is still a bit worrisome. The last board announcement (about the planned update of the forum to fix the spam issue) was around 2011, which makes me think Creaturetopia is dead. Creaturetopia is functionally dead. Treesprite got caught up in real life some time ago. Without its main administrator, Creaturetopia was deprived of new members, and most people decided to abandon ship for greener pastures (like here or the C4 forums). It's still seeing some activity, but the only two people who are consistently active are SpaceShipRat and Pirate Rob, and most of the recent posts are cross-posted announcements from here. Are there any downloads which are still Creaturetopia-only? I remember when I first got back into the Creatures series last year, there were a few cobs/agents that could only be found there and it was already locked down by that point. It's a shame that forum has died but I'm glad Creatures Caves has become the main stop for Creatures fans. It's a lot easier to find things and talk to people now. There are still many downloads that are only available to registered members of Creaturetopia. I sometimes think that it might be a good idea to share them over here, but I'm not sure if they're technically available for public download. Mip said it very nicely: It's a shame to see one awesome site die down, but we've now got a wonderful hub of activity in Creatures Caves! |

Anyone want to take on this project? I'm happy to volunteer! Grendel Man is correct about corrupt downloads: I've noticed that this happened with a few of them. Definitely worthwhile to confirm that anything posted over here works first. Luckily, I've seen updated downloads posted for a couple of problematic ones, so not all of them should be broken. I think the main issues are from ones posted long ago that had to be migrated with the domain change: Pretty sure the newer ones are good to go! |

Ylukyun: I'm not sure how just linking to the downloads will work (i.e. the TV Norns) because Creaturetopia still prompts you to login first when not everyone has an account. I think Rascii meant that we should actually upload the files, and then remove them if there are any complaints. |

Laura, I believe we're discussing actually uploading the Creaturetopia downloads to Creatures Caves, to avoid the logging in issue over on the forum. Only thing we really need to look out for are authors who clearly state that their work shouldn't be shared. Where will you be starting Ylukyun? Might make it easier to assign date ranges and/or sub-forums so there's no overlap. |

Never mind! Just saw the newest upload. As Laura stated, just linking to the downloads doesn't solve the issue, because non-registered members are still unable to access the forum. |

I did upload the breed (although the upload didn't work, I need to convert the .rar into a .zip) I just added the link there so people who happened to be registered could read the topic. Edit: I tried to take out the .gen file and put it in a .zip, but I'm having problems. Anyone else want to try? I hope the file's not corrupt - it opens OK and you can see the contents, so I don't know. The .rar can be downloaded on the original topic. |

If you can resubmit the TV Norns after converting the RAR file, we can replace the old breeds list entry; I don't think we need both the link and he file in this case. It should probably be noted in the descriptions that these downloads originally come from Creaturetopia too, just for the sake of courtesy and keeping a record. |

I'll have a go. I may be able to convert it with another program later. In the meantime I've found a few more things that I think are worth uploading. I see a lot of downloads posted there by people who are still active, too. I'm not sure if I should just wait for them to add their own stuff once they see this. Edit: I've found most of the stuff, so I can PM people with a list of their creations if they like. Still needs checking for file validity. |

I uploaded some CFE conversions over there a while back, but I'm not sure it was entirely okay in the first place since I hadn't thought to ask the breed creators first- and now I don't know if a lot of them are even still around *to* ask. Otherwise, I'd be happy to upload them here. |

Just started going through some of the old threads, and I've found that all of the downloads I've looked at from before about 2011 are corrupt. It's a shame, because I'm sure there are some downloads there that are difficult or even impossible to find anymore. I saw one download for C1 Albian Grey Norns, which I never heard of before. No go on that download, though. Some seem to open OK after encountering an error, but I'm a little wary about testing them out and possibly breaking my game. I have a knack for that! Ha ha! |

Yeah a lot of locally hosted files got corrupted when Ctopia moved servers (way before it became "closed to the public" ); we tried to fix links and such whenever someone reported something was broken, but a lot of the really old stuff just never got brought to our attention. |

Sadly, I haven't seen anything from TreeSprite. I hope everything is OK. I remember the lengthy discussion about a new design for Creaturetopia. which everyone was very excited about. It's a shame nothing has happened, but I'm still hoping that things go over well soon! I stopped visiting Albia 2000 a long time ago, since the forum became overrun with spam and the site never seemed to load properly for me. I know it was well before my time, but it's still sad to see a formerly active site fall apart. Creatures Caves best never head down that path! I don't think anyone would let that happen, though. |
