Should I say or should I go?

*ponders*

Well.... I have no steady, no husband, and no kids (thank dragon). Just the traditional crush of my age.

Still, I'm wondering if anyone will even post in this, seeing as crushes are often kinda personal.

You know what's sad? I don't think I've ever had a crush on anyone. Even back when I thought I had one on a friend back in HS... that was more admiration of his brilliance than any sort of lovey-dovey feeling. And looking back, he really wasn't my type....

...

Heck, I'm not sure I even have a "type". O_o

So, yeah, no significant other. And no kids; the younger siblings and pets keep be busy enough as it is.

aw, love.

i'm in new york city right now visiting my boyfriend until the 25th, then we're going to austin for almost a week :)

i have nothing particularly interesting to say about my boyfriend, because we're some pretty happy little lovebirds at the moment. oh, we met online, haha. if everything goes according to plan, we're gonna close the distance after i get back from my semester abroad in november.

summertime makes for many love connections, maybe you all folks with crushes should consider making some moves while the weather's warm and the season is right ;)

Well, being a teenager, I haven't found my single Mr. Right yet. I have two crushes. :$ taboo, right?

One's a little nerdy and comedic midget. The other's a pale red head only slightly shorter than me.

Yanno, the word "midget" is considered to be extremely insulting. I've seen it used in this thread several times and it is very inappropriate and politically incorrect. If you're talking about someone that is short, just call them short. If the person suffers from genetic dwarfism, lets not talk about it please.

Dreamnorn - you'd be surprised. Often people have crushes on each other and they're totally oblivious and never notice and think that no one likes them.

It never rains but it pours, KC? ;)

I have a horrible confession to make - I look after younger children a lot, and whenever a guy comes up and hits on me that I don't like or feel uncomfortable with, I make copious references to "my kids" to scare him off. He assumes I have a string of anklebiters and backs off, tactfully or not, as the case may be. The funny thing is, it doesn't work when I'm out on the town with my kids, as they are obviously unrelated to me!!! (don't laugh, it's happened. o_O)

I think I've got a guy who may be interested in me, but I'm not really looking for a boyfriend atm - I'm not in the right headspace. Oh well, see how things go.

I totally agree. :) Too bad I'm not old enough to use it yet.

The really wierd thing about it, though, is that they never ask the two ordinary social questions that would bring me all undone - how many do you have (15), and how old are they (6-10 years old) - I'm not quite old enough to have a ten year old child!!! It could be too that just referring to kids shows my prospective suitors that I'm perhaps not the kind of person to enjoy wild dance parties at the Bronze or whatever. :(

KC, it's really quite normal to have two crushes at the same time, I've done it loads of times. When it happened to me, I'd try to get to know my crushes better as *people* - it gives a chance for the gloss to wear off one or the other of them, and for me to work out if it's hormones driving the ship, or if they're actually likable, decent people. It's tough to do well, (for example, concentrating on what they're saying instead thinking about how dreamy their voice is... ;) ) especially as friendship cultivated for the express purpose of later dating is very much frowned upon.

Just out of curiosity, angel m'dear, how young is too young in your view?

I was *just* 15 when I had my first boyfriend, but that's pretty late compared to most people. Though seeing 11 and 12 year old and my school nattering about their boyfriends does make me feel a little icky inside... I know its just a couple of years, but that's hell of a difference when you're in your teens.
Ah well, at least I've never obsessed over people like most teenage girls I know have. You're setting yourself up for "dooom" that way.

Amusing, if slightly off topic: the first text I sent my current boyfriend was pretty abusive. I knew that another friend of mine (who had previously tried to set me up with people by stealing my phone and texting my crushes from it) happened to be staying around his house that evening, so obviously I put it down to that :$
"I know who this idiot, so I'd appreciate it if you could stop messing with me"
How romantic. It was a little ruder than that, obviously, but family forum 'n all.
And I know asking someone out by text is sort of cheap, but when you're citys apart and being nagged by a mutual friend allowances are made!

And Malkin, I too have had to look after younger children in the past. I'm still 16 and the pure *evil* looks I get from some people... blegh, half the reasons I quit actually.

I met my boyfriend on the internet (not on a dating site, just on a forum) when we were 12, we met up (and were going out, first partner for both of us, neither of us had cared at all about looking for relationships before that, we'd only been friends before, falling for each other was pretty much accidental XD) when we were 15, and we're now 17. ^^ Year and a half, still going strong. We're anything but the kind of teenage couple who say they love each other for a week then decide they dispise each other once they're bored. We live four hours apart, but see each other fairly often, and talk every day on msn and spend hours on the phone (and way too much money on text XD). Mushy stuff time? Yeah, why not. I love him more than i ever thought i could love a person, he saved my life. Seriously, i was suicidal, he's helped me though so many things. Everyone go aww.
^^ Spending two weeks at his house next month, yay!

I think angel is right.. If I made a new society, girlfriend boyfriend crap would be a "normal" thing at Junior/Senior level of Highschool or Freshman of College - NOT MiddleSchool and.. heck.. Elementary? wtf.

Anyway, yeah. My two cents.. I think crushes are crushes and are.. well.. crushes.

DragonGirl - IMHO, I don't think that people should be getting boy/girlfriends until upper high school or college years. Or if they're "dating" at 13 or 14 or earlier, i don't believe that things should go beyond a cheek kiss. Obviously it happens quite often but i don't value that sort of thing.

I personally was seventeen my boyfriend asked me out. I'll be 21 soon, and we're still together. And I too have been dubbed "too mature for my age" and just have a very serious lookout on stuff.

like i said, old-fashioned.

>_> I'm almost 14 and I think I'm due for a boyfriend.

Of course, it could be because most girls around me started dating around 9. Eh.

@ Leanne: Rubbish in bed? O_o

The normal person: Poor thing. She's going on the wrong path.

I think girls are socialised to think about babies and "related matters" (boyfriends and husbands) from a fairly young age - I see toddler girls (who can walk) out proudly walking, pushing their own mini hot pink strollers with a baby doll inside, for example. Most fairy tales end with "And so, the prince married the princess, and they lived happily ever after. The End.". When I was about six to eight, me and my girlfriends at school played "house" - I was the husband/father, because all the girls knew that *real* boys just couldn't play house properly. They'd want to run around and muck everything up. ;) I crushed on TV stars, though, rather than my classmates, because I figured I'd wait until they grew up and were more mature before trying my luck with them. (Guess what, girls - for the most part, I'm still waiting ;) )

It was all relatively innocent, though - I am shocked and appalled that your friend got dumped because she was "no good in bed", Nikizai. I am not so surprised that she got another boyfriend so quickly, though - there was a period of time when I was about 16 where it was safer for me to say "How's the boyfriend" or girlfriend than it was for me to say "How's Chris" - everyone was breaking up and taking up with new people at what seemed like lightning speed.

DragonGirl, my dad actually does that a lot - gives teenage girls with smaller children curious or judging stares. I give him an evil stare of my own and say pointedly, after she's left, "Wasn't that sweet, she was looking after her little brother/sister." Even if I've got the exact relationship wrong, it's much more polite than assuming the girl in question is a mother so young.

I didn't have my first serious relationship until I was 18. When I was in my early teens, I didn't have a clue how relationships worked or how to take them seriously - even though I thought I did, I really didn't!

It makes me laugh when I think back to what having a "boyfriend" was like at school, when I was 11-15. One of us would ask the other one out and they'd say yes, and then we'd only ever see each other during school hours and hang out together at lunchtime, etc. That was the extent of it. Back then, I think I must've thought that having a boyfriend was just a novelty, a game - the whole idea of just being able to say "I have a boyfriend!" to other people and it making me feel older than what I really was. Unsurprisingly these "relationships" didn't tend to last any longer than a couple of weeks at least.
