Creatures 3 apple patch C3 Arnout | 1/29/2017 | 5 |
type | Food | author | Arnout | updated | 7/15/2017 | version | 1.3 | Alters the Creatures 3 apple script and sprites to allow Creatures to take an additional bite before the apple turns into a detritus/apple core.
Also alters the apple tree so that there's always a healthy amount of apples for your Creatures.
Put the .c16 file in your Creatures 3/Images folder and the .cos file in your Creatures 3/Bootstrap/001 World folder.

They also can't be recycled.

Hmm, these apples seem to get killed when eaten if they ever fall off the tree before fully transitioning from the flower to full apple sprite, and I've not seen any ants collecting the cores. This is a welcome improvement though, especially while trying to teach my Creatures to prioritize fruits!

Apples will now only gain a behavior (bhvr) value once they're ripe or when they are plucked by the hand. (version 1.3)

I could actually find no clues at all as to what caused this in the original apple script, that was the main reason that I just decided to start all over from scratch.
Something that I oversaw is that the seed launcher was still vending the original apples, this caused some autokills and some frowns on my face. I've included a helpful seed bank update for both apple versions. I doubt if it conflicts with any other agents, but use it at your own risk.

That "wait before biting" thing is so annoying, I'm glad someone finally fixed it.

I've updated this agent to version 1.1. The old version is still in the zip file if you'd rather just have apples that Creatures can take an extra bite off.
I've completely rewritten the apple script and made it somewhat shorter, the result are the 'smart apples.' (The agents in the apple script still use the same classifiers.)
- Creatures no longer need to wait before taking a bite off the apple. That way other Creatures can't steal their apple while they're trying to eat in peace. Creatures can also take another few extra bites before it turns into a core.
- In the 1.0 version (and the original apples), if you used the hand to pluck apples the tree actually started to grow less apples as time went on. That's because the script only checked for at least 5 apples in the tree. The smart apples script keeps track of how many apples grow in the tree and how many leave the tree. There's always between 5 and 10 apples in the tree.
- Smart apples decay naturally so that the Norn Woodlands are not flooded with them. Decaying takes between 96 and 576 seconds.
- There were a few more bits added but I can't put my finger on what they were for.
