C1 Say Need No More   C1   GimmeCat | 11/5/2015  log in to like post  4

A C1 solution to getting creatures to shut the heck up about their mood levels!

After going back to C1 after playing C2 for a long time, I was surprised to find C1 norns suffer much, MUCH more from the dreaded "face camera and complain" loop, often paralyzing themselves by performing this action endlessly and interrupting anything productive their brain is trying to accomplish.

Injecting these scripts essentially removes these complaint behaviours from the game, giving norns some much needed rest and room to act.

Includes a remover, though you'll never use it. ;)

You'll need to use the kits, yes. The scripts in question have been blanked out entirely so when their brains trigger the 'say need' action, nothing happens and they immediately move on to make another decision. It was the only way to adjust this behaviour without creating a new genome; this way, creatures of any genome will be affected.

I've been playing this for twenty odd years, I have seldom had this problem, with good genes and proper training.

Does it make it impossible to learn your creature's needs without using a kit?

Brother, do they ever! You never said a truer word. It's unbelievably frustrating to watch a C1 norn who has been given a complete vocabulary say "(name) food" over and over again when it has plenty of food RIGHT IN FRONT OF IT even when you say "(name) get food" or "(name) look" and point at the food.

This seems very useful, but that Norn doesn't look very happy with you interuppting her whilst she's having a wash! [nlaugh]

@rnewell Yes, it's the 24 and 40 scripts. This cob just replaces them with blank files-- which seems a hacky solution, but in testing seems to work exceptionally well. Of course I'd love to get feedback, and if anyone experiences any horrible problems with it, I can look into scripting a custom, more elegant solution to the issue.

Was this a scripted behaviour?
