how about a pile of norns, a swarm of grendels, a congregation of ettins?
(and geats just do their own thing... a gaggle of geats...)

And if they are overpopulating due to mass breeding, you could call their young a litter.

I think I'd use the term "troop," which is used to refer to groups of primates. I also like DarbyDoo's suggestion of "village."

I do find it depends on the breed a bit, since some vary so much they might as well be different species. But I voted Colony.
This also brings into question ettins and grendels, and what do you call males and females?
