I've wanted to write a Creatures fanfiction for a while, but have struggled to come up with any ideas at all, so I'm wondering if anyone else has one I could use. It would need to be something suitable for a short story of about 2000 words.
If I get something in time, I'll probably start working on it straight away and send it in as a CCSF submission. (You'll get credit for the idea, of course!)
Having someone to proofread it would also be helpful. |

I used to write (really bad) Creatures fanfiction when I was about 7 or 8. Oh, the horrible literary concoctions I use to create... They were all really stupid "Forbidden Love" stories between norns and grendels. I guess I was just that type of kid...
If you're looking for something taking place within the C3/DS timeframe, you could put the ship itself in some sort of crisis? And the norns, with their primitive brains, have to figure out how to try and avoid it? I always saw them as quite small compared to the Shee, so they obviously won't be able to use the ship controls as intended. Norns sitting on each others' shoulders to reach the buttons? One norn for looking out the window shouting instructions to the norn at the helm? Throw a grendel or two into the mix as an added "threat", or give them a temporary truce while it helps out on account of its larger size.
Alternatively, for something in the C1 or C2 timeframe, you could find a problem that befalls actual creatures players - Famine, plague, etcetera... And write about a population of norns trying to counter that? Explorations in search of food, keeping away from the ill to avoid the spread of disease... I tend to like fanfictions where the norns significantly are more intelligent than they are in-game, though I think they'd still be somewhat dense.
Science is a beautiful gift to humanity; We should not distort it. |

I tend to take inspiration from runs I've done. I've never actually written anything for Creatures, but I have a tendency to create characters for the norns. Maybe try watching over a wolfling run, seeing what happens, and going from there? |

Your could create several "tribes" of norns and then detail their histories and interactions as they developed into several kingdoms.
I've been on a Tolkien kick lately so excuse my suggestion to use norns as humans/elves, grendels as orcs, ettins as dwarves, and the shee as valar.

I had this idea of a story where each act tells the story through the eyes of a Norn in his/her generation. Act I tells the story of a Gen 1 Norn; Act II, Gen 2; etc. It's quite literally a never-ending story, unless extinction is necessary.
I'm coining this Fanfic series: Creatures Exodus: Generations. This series, will be discussed on a separate thread.
Creatures, and Civilization? I'll pay good money to have Norns form Nations and Cultures! |
