Fortunately, the virus had developed self-awareness, and developed its own auto-pilot algorithms to prevent the destruction of its new host, the quadcopter.

Fortunately, the quadcopter had no way of sending out data, so the virus was confined in it.

Unfortunately, the frustrated virus made the quadcopter explode, scattering flaming wreckage everywhere. |

Fortunately, the flaming wreckage landed in the ocean. |

Unfortunately, there was no water in the ocean, since the hand had injected an agent to make it liveable for air-breathing creatures. |

Unfortunately, this produced a lot of unpleasant side effects, such as methane gas leakage.

Fortunately, there is no 'methane' room type, and the chemical is unused in Creatures' genetics, so the methane didn't cause the creatures any problems with breathing or anything else.

Fortunately, they all had a mutation that made the pain chemical give reward instead of actually increasing their pain drives.

Unfortunately, the other time machine needed a pineapple to work.

Fortunately, one of the pineapples happened to be sentient. Being also both telepathic and quite interested in time machines itself, it hopped out of the box into their hands, and introduced itself mentally as Greg.
... and we've come full circle, lol...

Fortunately the hand (or whoever the protagonist is now ) was wearing armor that protected them from the projectiles. |

Unfortunately, the armor was wasted because Greg didn't feel like shooting his spikes at that particular moment and was more interested in traveling to any other time to get away from the fruit stand.

Fortunately, Greg was very useful to have around as his telepathic presence would cause any malicious psychics (such as that mind-flayer from earlier) to have difficulty hurting the group through direct psychic assault. |
