This may sound like the stupidest question, but I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. Does anyone know how you make the borders of SPRs transparent? I'm trying to make a cheese wheel and my placeholder BMP just shows up ingame with a huge white border. It still shows up if I change it to black, too. My efforts to look this up also came up with nothing.
Does anyone know what to do? It's so frustrating and I feel like an epic idiot.

Are you sure you're using the correct palette? |

Thank you so much for replying!
Well, I think so but I'm not quite sure to be honest; I don't really know what tools to use to make a sprite, since I couldn't find any dedicated tools or documentation on this subject I ended up making the sprite in GIMP, then opening and resaving it in MS Paint as a 256 colour BMP, then converting it to .SPR format with BoBCoB's sprite editor. It seems a little weird and clunky and there's probably something I'm doing wildly wrong, but not sure what else to use...

This may sound like a dumb question, but are you sure it is true black? True black is transparent. It must be rgb(0,0,0) even a little color and it will show up with a black background. If you have PHP on the command line, I wrote myself a script that will convert PNG's to SPR's. |

I think so... GIMP says the RGB values are 0, 0, 0. But I am opening and resaving it in MS Paint to get it to 256 colour BMP format, so that might be doing something funny...

Not sure if you are interested, but I created a webpage for you this afternoon that will convert images into a sprite directly in the browser. Nothing is uploaded anywhere. It is not terribly fast however, so if you do many large images, the browser may complain that it is not responding.
It is not fancy at all, but it should work. It allows images that do not conform to the standard 256 color palette, so some loss of colors or shifts in color can occur.
It has not been tested much at all. It works in Firefox and Chrome, but your results may vary.
It also does not support image dithering like the PHP script does. So there is that as well.

Oh my goodness, thank you so much! It actually works now! It must have been BoBCoB's SPR converter or something, but now the black border has totally gone!
Thank you so much again!

I found out the official tool for creating C1 and C2 sprites is Sprite Workshop. Details and download can be found at https://creatures.wiki/Sprite_Workshop |
