Where to start, regarding sprites

So I have made my first sprites, as you have probably seen already. Now that time allows it, I want to start working on actually implementing my grendel's sprites in-game. So, this is where I get lost. I'm not sure how to implement them. This might be an abstract question. So, would I just replace the sprites of an existing breed and rename them all? (I may have answered my own questing.) Anyways, tell me what you think.

Another way you could do it is copying a breed's sprite set to a second slot (duplicating files and renaming them, there's a naming scheme on the wiki) and then start replacing the copies. That way you don't have to "sacrifice" any breeds you have installed.

Lets play plants! Photosynthesis... Photosynthesis... Photosynthesis...

I second Papriko. What Papriko stated above also helps prevent green spew by using official sprite breeds as a basis.
