Tooltips not showing for installed agent | |

I've fixed so many things trying to get this cantankerous install of creatures 3/ds with c12ds to work, but this one has me beat... I've stripped the catalogue file down to the basic files, I've removed the documents folder to restart that, I've reverted files back to a working state I've had them in before, I've tried a newly installed version(which just throws the many errors I had to crawl through to get this far...) but I still cant get any tooltip windows to recognise what the agent is and give its description. I can see the descriptions in the documents folder at least, so I know its there. Something is blocking the communication between the game and the tooltips, and I dont know what it is or how it works... So if someone could clear that up it'd be great. Also if it's possible to retype some of the tooltips if I ever get them working... Some of them are in German or French and I'd like to translate them... |

You need to copy the catalogue files from the documents folder to the catalogue folder in the game's install location. |

...I knew it would be something simple, but shouldnt it be putting those files in that catalogue file too if they should be there? It must have been doing that before since I didnt have this problem... Also thank you for replying with a solution so fast. |

No, the game doesn't do that. The files have to be where it expects them to be or it just throws an error.
Conclude with killer catchphrase.

Ok, let me break it down, for newbies and myself too because it's a little hard to track what's going on.
The "virgin" game usually installs stuff in it's own /Programs/Creatures folder, right? I think it only adds an "agents" and a "norns" folder in /Documents for easy addition of exported norns and mods.
The GoG version instead adds this WHOLE copy of the /Creatures folder in /Documents, which the game can also read from.
When you open a wrapped agent in the "virgin" game, something like a breed, agent or metaroom that comes in a single file instead of a bunch of different images, the game unwraps it and puts all the image, .Att, .Cat files in their respective folders.
The GoG version does the above but puts all the stuff in this copy of the folder in /Documents. This usually works just fine, it can read the agents, norns, images, atts... except for some reason IT CAN'T READ THE .CATs from the Documents folder!
The solution: if it's the first time you install GoG Creatures, you'd better force it to install in a precisely named folder in /Documents, so both folders merge into one, and there's no more trouble. Otherwise, the workaround is to copy all the .cats over to where the game can read them.
Conclusion: Creatures, it's like herding cats. |

Thanks so much for explaining all that, that's solved pretty much every single problem I've had since I started trying to sort this install out! Lol herding .cat's... |
