So I had an idea for a metaroom which I spoke about on the Norn Nebula Discord.
I brought up the idea of using cameras to create the illusion of depth in a metaroom. The idea would be that a central room would have a room "in front of" and "behind" it. Creatures could travel freely between these rooms, and so you'd have a metaroom that is technically a couple of rooms joined together to create the illusion of a room you can travel in forwards and backwards, not just left and right.
To help with the illusion, there would be gaps in the backgrounds of the front and middle rooms that would be "screens", which displayed the previous room. In this way you can see what creatures are doing "deeper" in the room!
I sketched a rough idea of how it might look and work, I ended up working on a woodland/living area type of arrangement.
At this point in time I can't code for toffee, but I've been looking for an excuse to stretch my 3D art muscles again since uni. I largely wanted to see if there was much interest in making a room like this as a group project. It was suggested that this might be a cool submission for CCSF this year, perhaps?

This is amazing! I don't know if the concept of the cameras is even possible, but it sounds amazing. Maybe ask Grendel Man and Doringo about how to set up the floors: I think to help the chances of mobility, they need to be as flat as possible???

This is a really interesting idea! I might be able to help with some of the code. |

I don't understand how this works. How are you putting the rooms "in front" and "behind" other rooms?
Conclude with killer catchphrase.

Kinda like this: I think.
Basically it rember the room behind it instead of pieces of the background.
Sounds really neat, unfortunately, Im very new to coding, so I can't help much. |

Heya. I have a channel on the Caos Coding Cave where I will be posting updates if you wish to follow the project or even get involved.

The size isn't really a problem. Pretty sure the wrap in C12DS uses huge cameras as part of the magic.
The problem is that they are power hogs. Back when I had a garbage computer, the DS cameras were one of the first things I kill hots'd for performance.

That's been established, the idea is you wouldn't use this room for 100+ norn WRs, but for the more hands-on, small scale worlds.
It might still be a good idea to put still shots in the background, and have the cameras as an addon agent, for versatility. |

If I remember correctly, Grendelman's blog has a whole bunch of tutorials on building metarooms. Maybe that can help?
