Using Spritesheets in Spritebuilder | |

Here's a quick tutorial on how to use the Spritebuilder's best and most underutilised function: the spritesheet.
To start off, open a c16 file in the Spritebuilder. Something with a fair amount of frames, such as a norn head sprite. Then, on the menu, Cut > Automatic Uncut to Clipboard.
Open Photoshop or your image editor of choice. Paste. This is the spritesheet for your sprite file, which you can now alter. Don't touch the color outside of the sprites when you edit, though -- the easiest way to preserve it is by masking it off or copying it to a new layer.
When you're done, save the sprite sheet as a bmp file. If using Photoshop, make sure you save 24 bit color and with 'Flip row order' ticked.
In Spritebuilder, make a new file. Click the 'Insert bitmap' button, and select your spritesheet. This will import your spritesheet. Now, you want Cut > Automatic Cut. BAM.
It's as easy as that!

Thanks Liam! I'm sure a lot of people will benefit from this. I know I can think of more than a few applications... ![[ngrin] [ngrin]](/images/smilies/emot_grin.gif)

How can I not have known this? I mean, this is what kept me from ever finishing the dino norn heads... And now the images are gone (perhaps dormant on some computer that's been left o dust down unplugged somewhere). But this makes sprite building a whole, whole lot easier. I'll try this out some time.
Thanks a lot, Liam. You're brilliant! |

I may have them if you want to continue.
Edit: Additionally I still have the png of Ettinopia if you ever wanted to continue working on it!

You seriously do? That is so cool! If you'd send them over, I might attempt to revive my efforts (though I offer no guarantees). |

I am using this method to create head sprites for C1. It works but you have to convert the spr files to s16 first. |
