Sure, we have plenty of aquatic metarooms to go around: Aquatilis Caverna, Aquatopia, the C3 Aquatic Terrarium, etc. However, there is a noticeable lack of standalone aquatic agents that aren't connected to these metarooms (or specialized flooder agents such as Hydro Nornterrarium).

Amount of aquatic critters (not counting edits/additional C3/DS aquatic critters): 8, according to CU7's agent list. Most of these being conversions of C1/C2 critters (the Zander Fish, for example)

Amount of aquatic plants: 1 (Stormynight's Aqua Plants).

Seeing this, I figured I'd make a pack of 4 plants and 4 critters for aquatic areas that aren't tied in with any metarooms and aren't conversions. They are as follows:

Plant 1: A smallish plant for freshwater areas. Roughly the size of the gumin grass in the C3 Aquatic Terrarium. It would resemble grass, except with longer, flowing leaves. It produces floating seeds.

Plant 2: Another plant for freshwater areas, but this one is high enough that it goes up to an adult norn's neck. Its seeds are packaged in fruit that norns can eat. This plant would have a central stock with rings of 3-4 leaves around the stem at certain intervals.

Plant 3: This plant would be for saltwater areas. It looks a bit like coral and a bit like a sponge. It produces floating seeds. It's about twice the height of the AC Multicoral.

Plant 4: A fruiting, saltwater plant that's about the size of an adolescent norn. It resembles fan coral that produces myriad small berries for passing creatures to pluck off and eat.

Critter 1: A chambered nautilus for saltwater areas. It moves slowly and grows slowly. If creatures get near, it would pull itself into its shell, which creatures could then play with. If norns eat it, they can play with the shell.

Critter 2: A squid or octopus for saltwater areas. It's skittish and runs from creatures. If a creature pushes it, it emits ink. It's edible, and quite tasty.

I don't have ideas for Critters 3/4 at the moment, but they'd both be freshwater fish. The only ideas I've come up with sound too much like the stickletrout. P=

The only problem I have in making these: I can't make original sprites, and I don't want to simply make another conversion of a C1/C2 agent.

Basically, I'd like someone to help me with the sprites here, as well as potential ideas for the freshwater critters.

critter ideas: crayfish, edibl as young, but then grow harder as they age.
Fish, like a stickletrout but smaller and orange.
aquamite-ish things
Maybe a tomecko type thing that grows from an uneaten fruit from plant 2, excretes seeds of the plant.

those are just some of my stupid ideas

I know I love planting the AC plants into Aquatopia - it's a brilliant idea to have some more standalone aquatic agents. :)

What about a nasty weed, or something which gives floating food? What about a detritivore? Have you looked in books about aquatic ecosystems for inspiration? Nature is the mother of all invention, after all. ;)

Hm.... You know, I'm probably going to go look at one of those books. Being so interested in this stuff, I'm surprised I didn't think of that. Although, I do like the crayfish idea Gumbo posted.

And I really don't think these agents would have an interesting backstory, Sam.

If they're not for one metaroom, why not make a mobile seed bank, like the one in C3 or Norngarden2?

Also:

-A freshwater fish that jumps out of water in high arcs like the jumping fish in Super Mario Bros. to catch insects and ceiling plants.
(Or just a conversion of the jumping fish from the Mario games, not really a lot of difference there)

-A plant to go on the ceiling of air above rivers, like the Grassy Knoll in the Norn Meso, but kelp-like in appearance. Produces berries that drop into the water if the jumping fish/hand don't snatch them up first. Grows from the surface like a bladderwort and extends upwards and downwards and across the surface. It is even a carnivorous plant in this stage, trapping insects to grow. When it reaches the ceiling it detatches the tangled central and bottom mess and starts to produce fruit, restarting the cycle. The bottom part is edible, even before being dropped off.

How about makeing all this stuff come from a vender which explodes, spraying the seeds and eggs about when put in water and pushed.

NG2 does have a seedbank. It's the wombat thing you can dispense from one of those buttons in the hub room.

Well, what I'm planning to do for the plants is have a seed packet for them, much like the ones that the Yeddreffen Ferns, Clover, and Curlshoot plants have. You'd take them to the desired location, click on them, and viola. As for the critters, I'm thinking something along the lines of an egg layer like the C2 Goldfish/Zanderfish have.

The problem with the hanging plant idea is that, unless some system is implemented so that the seeds have to start underwater, it'll be able to grow anywhere - from the Meso to the Bridge. And I believe the Arrowhead vines do that job well enough at the moment.

The jumping fish is an idea... Probably would need to include a bug to feed them as well, though.

I'm still looking for a spriter for all these, as well as a few more ideas for the second 2 aquatic critters (the freshwater ones).

axolotls are always awesome, maybe frogs and pollywogs. axolotls fertilizze hanging plant seed, making it float upward and immediately start growing. maybe a caiman that acts like a borland when the fish population gets too high. if a baby or undine or nano or any small norn wanders into the caiman cave, it gets eaten, like by phiranas. there would be a "safe" option that closes up the cave. the caiman could get by the door to feed on fish, but it wouldnt eat norns when eating fish

These aquatic agents sound wonderful. I would love to see them created and put them in my underwater world or Aquatic Terrarium. It would liven the place up so much!

Saying you need help with the sprites, does that just mean you need someone to help draw them? In that case maybe I could give it a go.

First off, I know what I want to do for the other 2 aquatic critters now.

The first freshwater critter will be Gumbo's axolotl idea, although slightly changed. They hop along the bottom (think: the way the dragonfly nymphs move in the Canopy metaroom), and when they come upon some detritus, they eat it (although eating isn't mandatory for them).

The second critter will be a knifefish. They aren't very fast, but can move in any direction with equal ease (including straight up/down and backwards - when they hit a wall, they back up before turning around). I might have them eat excess seeds or something like that.

I might also change around one of the plant ideas to the hanging plant, except that the plant doesn't hang from the ceiling, but rather the surface of the water.

Might add a few weeds/beasts later on, since I've been thinking about hosting an aquatic wolfling run that's a bit more challenging than the norm.

By "sprites," I mean the in-game images for the agents. I cannot make those at all beyond conversions/recolors (at least, not beyond anything that looks like a very badly drawn C1 agent). I'm looking for someone who can make the sprites look good no matter where they are (for example, you could put the nautilus in C12DS's oceans or you could put it in the C3 Aquatic Terrarium, and it would look fitting in both places).

That said, I suppose concept art wouldn't be too bad, either. Might give other spriters a better idea of what I mean.

Ohh okay. Well, with my agent ideas I was simply going to draw them on a piece of paper and scan them in or use MS paint otherwise. (Lol) I think maybe you need something more complex by the sounds of it. Just, each game has it's own sort of 'colour' doesn't it? Still, I'll try and draw some of the thingees. I like drawing Nautilis. They're cute.
