Does anyone know where I can find DS/C3 creature spriting tutorials? I can find them for agents etc, however I can't seem to find them for creatures themselves.
Cheers |

Download the Spritebuilder first.
You need it for the C16 files.
And here is a tutorial. |

if you mean like making a breed by spriting for creatures for themself, you have to be prepared it's a time consuming procedur..
spriting for creatures is not that simply like for agents, since agents mostly have whole pics in a single file..
also, still if wanting to do sprites for a creature, the easiest thing would be taking a base (official free ones only, such as magma or chichi) and get a idea of how it look like, but you can of course draw from scrath too
i take it as you seem you want to do a breed, since you said spriting for a creature,so here goes:
for creatures, they have sprites for each bodyparts wich then hold up different angles of the bodyparts,
such like one file holding the head, wich has all of the rotations, expressions and closed eyes..
All bodyparts have up to 15 images, except the head..
just open any spritefile with spritebuilder and you see,the following that belong to a creature is
a (head) (has 191 images!)
b (body)
c (left hip)
d (left leg)
e (left foot)
f (right hip)
g (right leg)
h (right foot)
i (left shoulder)
j (left arm)
k (right shoulder)
l (right arm)
m (tail base)
n (tail tip)
(all of those are a bodypart, and after those is 2 numbers, indicating
female/male creature species and the last is the age, after that comes a last letter, wich is the breed slot..
species:
0 : male norn
1: male grendel
2 male ettin
3 male geat/shee
4 female norn
5 female grendel
6 female ettin
7 female geat/shee
ages:
*0 baby
1 child (often use baby sprite in ds)
2 adolscent
*3 youth
4 adult(youth-adult use same)
*5 old aged
6 acient aged (use old aged)
those in * means thats the sprites
they only make, since the next age often use same as the previous one,but they are there for people if they want to fill in the extra lifestages if wanted..
breed slots are from A-z
(chek a breedlist like see7net or mummy's creatures to see if there's any room)

Ok thanks guys!
So are adult sprites just scaled-up by the program? Well that's cool I guess.
Yeah I'm thinking up a breed.. well more like an entirely new species, it might be a bit over my head, but hey, I'll give it a go. |

No, unfortunately sprites can't be scaled up or down. The thing is that if a set for one life stage is missing, the game grabs the set for the previous life stage and uses those. But it doesn't modify them at all. You have to make each individual set for every life stage you want to have different sprites.

So creatures can look completely different between lifestages?

Yep. As long as they're named correctly the game will use them.

yeah ^^
ditto on ghosthande there ^^
think of the jungle norns for an example,
they might not change extremly, but still theyre one example..
also that way,was my first try on my c2 gremlin breed doing that XD
made 4 different looks (and im planning to revamp those someday ^^'
hopefully if im ever able, thats also a thing im going to use for my c2 dragon grendels X3
but yes,the addon lifestage can be quite interessting to put into use like that :3 |
